Genes Michigan Stand - Port Henry

Today, August 12, 2022, I visited Genes for the first time in a year. My friend and I used to come from Vermont once a week, sometimes even more, to enjoy their Michigans. Sadly, he passed away a year ago, so today I wanted to revisit a place that held such fond memories for us. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The bungalow felt smaller than I remembered, the sauce seemed watered down and just wasn’t the same as it used to be. The onions were tiny, despite my request for extra, and the hot dog had an odd taste. Overall, the experience did not justify the trip. On a positive note, the onion rings were excellent. I’m not sure what happened, but I understand that businesses sometimes cut corners to save money. I believe this will be my last visit.

He passed away a year ago, so I wanted to revisit a cherished tradition and enjoy some Michigans in his memory. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The bungalow felt small, and the sauce was different—almost watered down—and simply not at all like I remembered. The onions were tiny, even though I requested extra, and the hot dog had a peculiar taste. Overall, the visit wasn't worth the trip, although I will say the onion rings were fantastic. I'm not sure what changes have been made, but I understand the need to cut corners to save money. I don’t think I’ll be returning again.
