Bistro Montage - Portland

I really enjoy The Montage; to be honest, my experience has been somewhat inconsistent over the years. However, during my recent visits, the food has been spot on. I particularly like the étouffée, red beans and rice, gumbo, and the fried chicken. My son is a big fan of the various mac and cheese options and the bobo (biscuits with spicy gravy). Over time, I've discovered that their jambalaya and alfredo don’t quite suit my taste. Nevertheless, I’ll continue to return because they consistently excel at what they do.

The service is usually nothing short of exceptional. The staff is incredibly professional, and while I’ve overheard the kitchen staff letting out some colorful language, I actually find that amusing. On the rare occasions when the service has faltered, it was during chaotic busy times—like packed weekends with lines out the door—and even then, everything was still perfectly satisfactory. There’s a reason this restaurant is featured in all the travel guides; it’s a true Portland staple. Be sure to add it to your must-visit list! P.S. Don’t miss the artwork— the murals are stunning. If you’re a tourist, ask for a postcard of the Last Supper mural (where Jesus is picking up the tab). P.P.S. The attached lounge, which has been around for a few years, is also worth a visit. Their happy hour features a limited selection from the main menu at great prices (though drinks can be pricey). The service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is relaxed. And I’m pretty sure they have the largest "no minors allowed" sign in existence, just so you know!

I visited for the second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first! I highly recommend the vegetarian hush puppies. My only criticism is that the fried chicken was slightly dry, but it was still delicious. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Got treated to dinner here tonight! Wow...yum! We shared the alligator tail bites before dinner and then I had the Bobo and chicken fried steak, and shared with Marcia and Ryan who had the Mac n cheese with bacon and garlic and the catfish fillet...we all shared with each other and WOW, what a treat they each were!! Great atmosphere there too! Will definitely go back to try some more times!

Seriously love everything about this place! Great food and service. Can't get enough of the catfish and fried oysters. Fun leftover art also!
