Love it. Will be back next time we're in town.Added notes: the bathrooms were single stall unisex and clean. There was a small public lot next door making parking super easy. There are other shops nearby so you can walk around a bit after and even get dessert.
I’ll start by saying I hate to leave reviews usually don’t; so when u do it’s only when I’m very impressed or very disappointed. I’ve been here several times never been disappointed. This time was different unfortunately. My first red flag was when our food came out in less than ten minutes. Fresh food takes longer than that to cook. My partner I came by for dinner because she wanted the trout salad. Which she seemed to enjoy. I was in the mood for white fish so I ordered the pan fried Idaho trout piccata, with broccolini lemon mushroom risotto. Sadly, the menu said nothing about the trout actually being farm raised steelhead (I hate steelhead) so that was my first disappointment. Next, the risotto was complete mush. I asked the server to ask the kitchen when it was made. He said it was “prepped” yesterday. Having spent 20! Years in the culinary industry including culinary school I know what that means. lastly, the broccoli was just unseasoned broccoli. Zero salt, pepper, or butter. The server was friendly enough not rude at all, but when I made my disappointment visually audibly known, he showed offered zero in the way of fixing the situation. I did say that will take the remaining 2/3rds of the disappointing meal to go partner would have it at work later, so I understand that. I despise people who complain just to get free stuff so that’s why I try not to leave bad feedback. I think the biggest disappointment was that from my very first sign of displeasure, there was no offer to fix the situation from beginning to end. I left the couple stars because the staff were fine. But I won’t return.
I ordered their coconut snapper. The dish sounded promising however snapper was NOT what was served to me. It was a bland filet fish with lots of toppings on it and basically nothing I expected from the description of the menu. My cocktail was nice and the bartender was friendly. I liked the decor of the place. It was very dimly lit and a quiet night when I went.Wheelchair accessibility: Very spacious restaurant. In fact someone was there in a wheelchair.
OMG! Dinner was amazing! I had the filet with shrimp, broccolini and fries! Absolutely delicious! And to top it off, I had the brownie for dessert! Everything was perfect! The 2nd best part was that the prices are very reasonable. A+ highly recommend!
The Observatory is a sophisticated, yet casual restaurant in the Montavilla neighborhood of Southeast Portland. It was honestly a nice change of pace from the other restaurants we had been frequenting in the downtown area (mostly food trucks and bar food). From my few days in Portland, I would say this was my favorite meal and had the best food. So, if you're in Portland for just a day and want to eat well, definitely put the Observatory on your list.[COCKTAILS]+Fresh Fashioned (tart cherry infused bourbon muddled with fresh pineapple and amarena cherry, dash angostura bitters with a splash of club soda on the rocks) for $12 4/5[APPETIZERS]+Mussels Diabla (spicy white wine, tomato, and garlic broth) for $18 4.5/5+Sesame Sweet Chili Glazed Chicken Wings (spicy mustard, green onion, and peanuts served over slaw) for $10 4/5[SALADS]+Black Kale Salad (purple cabbage, shaved carrots, dried cranberries and sunflower seeds in a honey lemon vinaigrette topped with parmesan cheese) for $9 4/5[SIDES]+Side Garlic Parmesan Fries for $6 4.5/5[DESSERTS]+Warm Chocolate Brownie (caramel sauce and gluten free vanilla ice cream) for $8 4.5/5
