My daughter from upstate NY is being treated at Sloan Kettering in NYC, I currently live just north of New Haven in Connecticut so the Poughkeepsie area has become a meeting point for use when she has appointments. Today we peeked in The Pastry Garden window just had to go in to treat ourselves because everything looked so amazing. I settled on a napoleon, a treat I haven't had in a while. I considered having a bite before I hit the road to go home but because fresh naploeons can be so deliciously messy I opted to wait until I got home. It was a 2 hr drive home and I was so ready for a bite of pure heaven. I'm not a fan.of the thick icing on top so I was going to scrape it off amazingly the icing came off in one big piece I felt a little deflated thinking that's not typical of a fresh pastry. But when I started to eat it I discovered it was still slightly frozen, like a real icy bite in the center. Not only was it not fresh, the puff pastry was not flaky at all, it just seamed firm stale. The creamy filling had a good taste and the thin layer of raspberry filling in the bottom layer was a pleasant surprise but overall it was still very disappointing due to the quality of the puff pastry from being frozen for who knows how long. We will never again stop in there to treat ourselves, I will say all the desserts look amazing, too bad there's no guarantee what you buy will be fresh. Its a shame for a place that seems a bit upscale to sell such a disappointing product. I haven't had that kind of experience at a real bakery in all my 62 yrs. Shame on them!
I am soooo happy with how my baby shower cake came out! Scooby Doo isn’t a typical theme but Pastry Garden pulled together exactly what I envisioned.
Pastry Garden did an amazing job on short notice. This recreation came out better than the sample pic I provided. The finished product and flavor was delicious. Enjoyed by all.
I absolutely love The Pastry Garden! I first tried one of their cakes at a friend's wedding and they loved it so much they continue to order the same cake (strawberry shortcake with vanilla custard) for all of their celebrations. When we got married one of their cakes was included and we were so pleased with not only the cake but the experience. The bakery itself is very bright and has a nice selection of treats as well as their wedding displays. Stephanie the owner is a pro at what she does and was so incredibly warm and welcoming. The samples we tried were all delicious but we settled on chocolate cake with strawberry preserves and chocolate ganache we ironically didn't have a chance to eat the cake at our wedding are counting down until our anniversary to dig into it! We've since become regulars for their Italian cookies and coconut macaroons. They have so many options for cake fillings that there's something for everyone my brother in law is dairy free they did an amazing job at making him a Black Panther inspired birthday cake that was also vegan. It was literally the shape of the panther helmet they nailed it.
We were so pleased with The Pastry Garden for our wedding cake! Not only did it look beautiful, but it also tasted absolutely delicious. The flavor we decided on was a lemon cake with raspberry and champagne mousse, and it was a hit with all of our guests. The staff were very easy to work with and provided a great tasting experience. They were also very accommodating and willing to work with us to create the perfect cake for our special day. We would highly recommend The Pastry Garden to any couple looking for a delicious and beautiful cake for their wedding!
