Coney Island Pizzeria - Poway

Oh no! This was the best pizza place in Poway. They always treated us wonderfully. As a military member, whenever I returned from deployment, they expressed their gratitude and even gave me a free pizza. I consistently ordered from them whenever I came back home from overseas. Now that I'm back in Poway and have seen the unfortunate news, I truly hope they can recover because my family misses them. If I could, I would give them a thousand stars!

However, the pizza crust was the biggest disappointment. While it was nice and thin, it had a chewy texture that made it difficult to bite into. The sauce was light and sweet, exactly how I like it, but the pepperoni slices were thin and lacked the slight crispiness I was expecting. The garlic knots had the potential to be perfect, but the topping tasted too much like flour. Perhaps using minced garlic instead of powdered could improve it? On the positive side, the bread was cooked to perfection with a lovely crunch, although it also had some chewiness, but not as much as the pizza crust. It seems our search for a great thin crust pizza will have to continue!

The baked spicy wings were steaming hot and fresh too! I loved the sauce and will definitely try the BBQ flavor next time. I'm not sure if I devoured 6 or 8 wings because they disappeared so quickly! I will absolutely order those again! While I was waiting for my calzone, I arrived early and treated myself to a Coke float. As soon as I took a sip, I was hooked on their amazing ice cream. It seriously made me so happy—I couldn’t help but smile at my spoon! For dessert, I had their incredible cannoli. The shell was fresh and crunchy, filled with a sweet creamy ricotta that was just divine. I probably should have ordered three for my family, but I think I’ll save that for a special treat day. I can’t wait to try the pizzas here! I heard two young guys sitting nearby chatting about the different pizzas after finishing theirs. It was so encouraging to hear their excitement about trying every option on the menu! Christina, the lady who took my order, really made my dinner special. She took the time to chat with me about the ice cream and gladly switched my drink to Coke instead of root beer. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly person with a beautiful smile and outstanding food to turn your day around!

When I moved up north from the downtown area, I knew finding a solid pizza place wouldn't be easy. Thank goodness I found Coney Island. They are as close to NY style pizza I can find. I call ahead and the order is ready within 15 min every time. Both the food and staff are top notch!

Unfortunately it looks like they are now closed for good. Phone number doesn't work and the store is gutted and empty. Shame it was great pizza.
