Gary's Bistro - Qualicum Beach

A nice spot for lunch. Very nice calamari. Great cold pale ale. I had the halibut and chips. Very tasty. My wife enjoyed her sandwich as well. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere.

We knew Gary personally, and we would eat at his bistro when he was on duty, especially. To watch him work the restaurant, was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish that came out of the kitchen, Gary oversaw, so no customer was short-changed or ever, ever left hungry. He remembered us every time we ate there and his personality lit up the place. There used to be lineups out the door, and no one minded waiting, when Gary was on duty. Sadly, now the portions are smaller, the service just so-so, and we felt rushed about, and not listened to. I think the issues arise from us having had Gary's incredible service in the past, to what it is like now. We know things change in life, especially when owners die, but these changes in our experience there, has left us feeling disillusioned, and yes, sad. Our last meal there, was literally, our last. We were relieved to see the car still on the wall, Gary was so proud of that.

I ate at Gary's while on a little day trip to Qualicum with my Grandma and Mom. It was past lunch time but not yet dinner time and they were the only place open....we were definitely glad we happened upon them. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Nothing super fancy but definitely something for everyone. Gary's is a cross between a pub and diner. Family friendly with great service and food. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I highly recommend checking them out if you are in Qualicum.

This is not a place to go if you are a " foody". The food is ordinary fair but fun to look around in if you are a car buff. We have eaten here a couple of times but there are better places in Qualicum to eat.

This was one of the only options open when we stopped into town and we are glad it was. It was a cute setup inside but we chose to enjoy the sun on their fairly large patio. The waitress was extremely friendly and always making sure we had what we needed. The fish and chips were super flakey and golden brown served in a generous portion. The veggie burger patty was huge and tasty with plenty of cheese and olives. Also the gravy is salty and wonderfu on the fries. I would recommend for any meal.
