Caveau des Vignerons - Riquewihr

While we visited this busy city, we were desperately looking for a place to lunch around 1pm, as most restaurants were quite crowded. we came over this and although everyone was occupied, the dinge moved quickly and we hoped for a place. after approx. 15 minutes waiting period was provided a table, we sat and menus were presented, and drinks served a beautiful tasting local wine. we decided to share the local speciality baeckeoff, it was served by the cook itself, a very pleasant young man. the meal was absolutely devine and we ate every delicious morsel. we loved the ambiente there, a very cozy, picturesque room with a small bar, everyone naturally relaxing and enjoy their meal. it looks as if the restaurant is run by a young couple, cook with it and they run the front, both very efficient and very busy. we noticed that they closed the restaurant around 14 o'clock.

We invited to lunch while we visit riquewihr (a beautiful little town). we had both different versions of tarte flambé and both were very good. a beautiful restaurant with pleasant staff. treppen zum wc are very steep, so no good for all with...mobility ask.

We had a cheap meal with sufficient service and a good selection of local specialties e g flammkuchen here . the local weine are of course a must and the ambiente was pleasant

When I last visited the Caveau in 2009, it was owned by different people and was much more in the higher end, steak frites/local cuisine, model. It is a very different place now and I have to say that I like it. Previously, the restaurant...was very dark and now it is well lit and inviting. It is now a much more casual place locals were there in shorts, etc. There are now lighter menu options and a lot of pizza choices, focusing on the local version, flammkuchen. Steak frites is gone but the local specialties are still here. And they are also very good. As has been previously stated in reviews, English was not spoken here the night I visited. Neither was Alsatian. This could have have been a deal breaker, as I can understand some French but my accent is embarrassing to all involved. But the waiter invited me in speaking French and seated me with a German/English menu. I ordered two traditional items, Ham and Gruyère Salad and the choucroute garni sour kraut with 5 kinds of sausage and smoked pork with a flask of the local Riesling. Very old school. Despite the German/English menu, I ordered the items by their Alsatian names which elicited a short snort from the young waiter.I wasn 't sure what that was going to translate into. But the food arrived quickly and the service was great. Just as I elected to receive the check, a number of people came into the restaurant and sat down. The waiter acknowledged my request and I could tell by the look on his face I might not get my check right away. He came back out of the kitchen and placed a small glass snifter in front of me and explained to me in French that the item was on the house. He then went to seat the people who had just come in. The snifter held a serving of ice cold marc de Gewurztraminer. This is a grappa like liquor made from the skins of the local Gewurztraminer grape after they are pressed for wine. And it doesn 't get any more old school Alsace. Someone who ordered what I had for dinner would clearly appreciate this. By the time I was finished with my after dinner drink, the new crowd was seated and had their orders taken and I could now pay. I greatly appreciated the young waiter 's thoughtfulness not only inviting in a non French speaker, but also in comping me as he got busy and the empathy in bringing the old dude something very traditional. And the food was very good.

Stopped in here because it looked warm. They have a nice selection of wines of the area, but limited english fluency.
