Macaroni cheese is not a local delicacy but is offered with nearly every meal. It tasted as if it was cooked at the beginning of the week, we ate on Sunday. The wine, however was very good but as it was the local wine, 5 miles away, probably just confirms the lack of effort generally rather than an even passing interest in customer satisfaction. Perfunct service bordering on hostile.
There are so many great good and tasty restaurants in Luberon and in the village of Roussillon that you should AVOID this Comptoir which has nothing artistic in its cuisine. Let's start with the location and decor: centrally located, it claims to have a terrace with a panoramic view. There is indeed a terrace but i am afraid you will see more the cars parked nearby than the iconic panoramic view of the Luberon. The decor is passe, old, worn out with some bad paintings replica or posters hanged on the walls which apparently gives the name to the restaurant. Regarding the cuisine, I am not sure there is a real cuisine. I had the impression to deal with microwave heated disgusting dishes. The waiter took incorrectly my order, i end up with the driest piece of chicken i ever ate. How could you mess up with chicken? Oh yes, with reheated of unwanted pieces of chicken... the manager should retire immediately. If he doesn't like his job he should not keep on providing such horrific food and service. And for the respect of his client, he should take a shower before each evening service. The smell was unbearable.Honestly, go and have lunch/dinner somewhere else if you dont want to see your Luberon marvelous experience ruined by such poor culinary experience. Such a shame!
We came here tonight, were given a warm welcome and shown to a table to the rear with views. Our waiter was absolutely excellent- efficient, and engaged. Our food was good, the Ventoux rose excellent value- we slightly strayed off the menu prix fixe but that was included. A great evening helped by a glass of local digestive. Totally recommended!
I just read some of the negative reviews, and I have no idea where those people ate because our experience was nothing like that. My wife and I be-friended a local resident of Roussillon, who recommended Comptoir Des Arts so we gave it a shot one day for lunch. It was a hot day, but the restaurant had little misters on the terrace to keep people cool. The place was packed with locals, so the atmosphere was definitely great and authentic. In terms of the food, it was EXCELLENT. Local fresh ingredients - I ordered La Grande Assiette (i.e., the big sampler), and I had the most amazing plate of goat cheese, eggplant, tomatos, rabbit terrine, etc. It was so delicious. My wife had the chicken and avocado salad, which she loved. The service was also great - very friendly and accommodating. We don't speak French, and the waiter's English wasn't great, but he was friendly and patient with us as we were easily able to communicate anyway. We had such a great lunch that we came back again the next day!
On Sunday, June 4th, 2017, my husband, 12 year old son and I were on a small group tour of the Luberon region. Our guide stopped in Roussillon to give us time to look around the town and eat lunch. I didn't know in advance which town we'd end up in for lunch on the tour, so I didn't have a chance to research restaurants ahead of time. This was basically the first restaurant we came across after arriving in town, and after a quick perusal of the menu, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant had just recently opened for lunch, and there were very few other people inside. We were shown out onto a terrace, which ended up being the only good thing about the place. We ordered and were quickly brought our drinks. The waiter then requested our food orders. I ordered a chicken dish, and my son ordered a basic burger...then the problems started. My husband wasn't hungry and only wanted a coffee, and when he told the waiter this the waiter started yelling at us that "this isn't a bar, you must order food." I said, "I ordered food, my son ordered food, and my husband isn't hungry." The waiter yelled at us again that it wasn't a bar and that he couldn't only order a drink. I, very calmly, reiterated that my son and I had both ordered full meals, but that my husband wasn't hungry, and didn't know why there was a problem. Once again, the waiter insisted that my husband order food, so he found the smallest salad he could find on the menu. The waiter walked away grumbling. My husband, son, and I sat there in complete shock that the waiter had just behaved so rudely, especially since two out of three of us had ordered food prior to the waiter's blow-up. Never, ever before have we been treated this way in a similar situation. What we should've done is gotten up and walked out, but we stayed to hurry up and eat so that we could move on to sight-seeing as soon as possible. After the horrible service came the mediocre food. First, food should take at least a few minutes to prepare (at least in decent restaurants). It came out almost immediately, meaning that it had basically been made well in advance and slopped onto a plate for the unwitting traveler unlucky enough to come across this place. The chicken dish I ordered was supposed to have a creamy sauce, which looked overcooked, curdled, and the fats were separating out. To top that off, the chicken itself was very dry.My son wasn't impressed by the burger, which is something that should be fairly difficult to mess up. My husband didn't bother with the salad he wasn't hungry for in the first place.Long story short, if you're taking the time to research restaurants in Roussillon, cross this one off your list. There are other options, and I'm guessing most of them are better than this.
