(and we'll be eating leftovers for the next couple days! The consistently great food and service must be the reason that we've been coming here for over 30 years...
Kreis ' Steakhouse is an institution in St. Louis, and for good reason. It dates back to the 40s and has signified great dining as long as I can remember. We were looking for somewhere to celebrate my In laws ' birthdays and found out they had never visited Kreis ' no brainer! We were seated in a great spot in the lower level round table with plenty of room for five of us. Our server was remarkable! He could teach a class on how to provide outstanding service. We started with various salads and oysters Rockefeller. My Caesar was delicious and the oysters were great as well. For my entree, I enjoyed the Queen cut prime rib with the twice baked potato. Kreis ' is the place to go for prime rib. There is no better. It was beautifully medium rare and melt in my mouth tender. I snuck a few bites of my husband 's creamed spinach and it was amazing as well. And while I didn 't have the odd couple, my college age son was still remarking the next morning as to how much he enjoyed it. Since we were celebrating birthdays, our server brought out cheesecake with sparklers. It was such a sweet, celebratory touch. (and decadent) While I love visiting the latest and greatest restaurants in St. Louis, it 's the cornerstones such as Kreis ' that have set the standard for what dining scene has blossomed into.
We chose Kreis steakhouse for my birthday dinner and it was the perfect place to celebrate. I ordered the Queens Cut prime rib and it was excellent. The meat was tender and flavorful and I loved the horseradish sauce. It was a ton of food so I had plenty for leftovers. For my side I got the twice baked potato. It was good but I think next time I'd try something different. My fiancé ordered the tenderloin medallions Oscar. I tried a bite of his food and I loved the bearnaise sauce that came with the meal. Our waiter was the perfect level of attentive. He checked on us frequently enough that we never had to flag him down for anything, but not so much that we felt our meal was interrupted. When my fiancé made the reservation he noted that it was my birthday, so at the end of the meal he brought out a piece of cheesecake. It was a really nice touch, and it might be the best piece of cheesecake I've ever had. I thought I was too full for dessert but as it turned out I made room!
Delicious and classic! Service was top notch and the food was amazing! If you're in St. Louis, check it out! Sunday special $55 for salad, queen cut prime rib, side and dessert
Decided to try this place for the first time since it recently showed up on Ian Froeb 's top 100 list in St. Louis. I got the impression the restaurant was trying to 'punch above its weight class ', with mixed results. The meal my wife and I had was good but service was a bit spotty and incongruous with the menu prices. I 'm pretty sure my review won 't matter to the people who are regulars at this spot, as it seems to be a crowd favorite. For me, if I want a steak in the future, there are probably better options.
