Waldmann Brewery - Saint Paul

The 1857 Saloon has been beautifully restored and is now the home of Waldmann Brewery. They offer fantastic German beers and sausages! Be sure to try the Dampfbier and Dunkelweizen – both are must-tries while in St. Paul.

I tried the chicken schnitzel with asparagus and pasta. While it doesn't adhere to the traditional authentic recipe (the cut is quite thick), the sauce adds a delicious flavor. The Berliner beer has a smooth, champagne-like taste that complements the meal nicely.

The atmosphere, location, and service at the restaurant were pleasant. However, the food left much to be desired. It seems the person responsible for the cuisine lacks an understanding of how to prepare German dishes. Not only are the meals far from authentic, but they're also not particularly enjoyable. It might be beneficial for them to send someone to Germany to train under an experienced chef for a while. There are plenty of straightforward methods they could employ to greatly improve their sausages and spätzle.

Loved the history in this building!! The beers were phenomenal. We did a flight to try them all; they were all true to style and delightful. Wish we could’ve spent more time at this gem!

Edited review Be aware that there are temporary parking restrictions when visiting. The staff is friendly and the beer is amazing. I'd recommend using a rideshare service since finding parking can be difficult, and it's a good excuse to try all the beers since you won't have to drive!
