I always have a good time and good meal there. It's inside a small plaza called Grand San Francisco. You may think it's not too fancy, but the place stands out from the rest of the places there. If you are in the south, near San Angel, Coyoacan or Desierto de los Leones, this is an excellent place to have dinner or lunch. The terrace is very nice.
I was in the look for some gourmet comfort food, searching the web specially for pizza when I found their menu. My chef palate immediately savored at the flavors of the printed dishes and I couldn’t hold it any longer and headed to their place. The place is medium size, very comfortable looking and pleasing. I was greeted and saluted by the son’s owner and a very amicable waiter. I was invited to sit down at one of their tables and ordered a pizza Half Del Cuoco (a pizza with gorgonzola cheese and pear and no tomato sauce) and Half Four Seasons Pizza (Tomato, mozzarella, Artichoke, Mushrooms, Black Olives) and a Carbonara Spaghetti to take out. Needless to say, they were extremely good despite that once I arrived home the pizza and the Spaghetti were cold. I was very impressed with the thin and delicious pizza dough, but more with the way all the flavors came up in my mouth. The ingredients were not burned, nor the pizza dough. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked and the carbonara sauce was the best I ever had in my whole life. Today, I went to the restaurant with my parents for a family meal. We ordered to start an Artichoke with four cheeses, and a Carpaccio di Manzo (Thin layers of filet steak, mushrooms, olive oil, onion, lemon juice, capers and parmesan cheese). The Artichoke was exquisite, the outer leaves a bit hard as expected but the rest was tender and simply delicious with that four-cheese sauce that has Gorgonzola cheese and gives the delicate flavor of the artichoke a boost that complements it perfectly. The Carpaccio di Manzo is by far the best that I’ve ever had in my whole life. The flavors imbedded in the ingredients, and the exact amount of everything makes this dish a simple perfection. Afterwards, we ordered a Lasagna Della Nona (classic meat lasagna), a Calzoni Vesuvio (Tomato, mozzarella, artichoke, mushrooms, black olives, a bit spicy), and a pizza: Half Quattro Formaggi (Mozzarella cheese, Parmesan, provolone and gorgonzola) and Half Pizza Saporira (Tomato, mozzarella, gorgonzola and bacon). To everyone that knows me knows, that I’m not a big fan of Meat Lasagna, so I was a bit afraid of trying it out. I was very surprised to taste real meat-tomato sauce. This wasn’t your typical tasteless, commercial sauce, no. this tasted like the real deal! I felt immediately transported to Italy, their culture and their flavors. I simply loved it! The Calzoni was also exquisite. I loved how each and every one of the ingredients tasted in my mouth, combined with the cheese and the dough made it simply delicious. My only regret is that some of the dough was a bit thick on the edges, but that is to be expected on a Calzoni. The pizza’s dough was again quite good, very thin and lovely flavor. The amount of ingredients was also great and it tasted really good. I didn’t like it as much as the Cuoco or the Four Seasons Pizza, but it was far from being bad. To finish our meal, we ended up with a round of desserts: Tiramisu and fruits macerated in marsala wine. The fruits which consisted in blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and figs where macerated in delicious marsala wine and were excellent. Our only issue came with the Tiramisu… the dish that we were showed was very different in presentation. It was served on a cup instead of a small sized cake shaped Tiramisu. One bite and we could see that it was an old Tiramisu as it was dry and the coffee flavor was almost tasteless. We immediately told the staff at the restaurant about it and they were quite nice to bring us another Tiramisu, now same as the one we were showed and the taste was quite different from the first one. It was extraordinary the difference between one and the other. I got to say that it was the best Tiramisu that I had as well. So, in conclusion: This Restaurant is quite the find… I was surprise to know that they have 5 years open to the public and I never heard about it, but quite glad that I did. It’s a place where each and every dish will make you feel as if you’re in Italy, enjoying their hospitality, their food, their culture and gorgeous things that it has to offer. The quality of the meals and the attention of the staff is also quite remarkable and deserved a praise. All I have to say is well done! And Keep the awesome work that you’ve been doing!
Just amazing my wife had a red snaper which Luigi cooked for her, I order a spaghetti pomodoro and a steak with pepper sauce which was unique!!! Best Italian in Mexico City
