The food is on point, the carne asada is perfectly seasoned, the burritos are never small... the only reason I hold back one star is I always ask ahead for the amounts of salsa I would like and they only give maybe 1 or 2 of each. I buy for a family of 4 who is salsa-crazy. When I say we need 5 of each, it mean 5 of each. But no joke, this is the best taco shop food in PB. And they have the best location (close to the beach) too.
I ordered a wet (enchilada style) chicken burrito, taquitos, quesadillas, and churros. Their red sauce on the burrito was outstanding. The green sauce is very spicy but it blends with the food flavoring perfectly. The taquitos were a little bland, but with some salt were what you would expect, and they were dressed in sour cream pico and very good. The taquitos were for my son and while I realized they're not a traditional dish it was nice to see them on the menu and not have to explain to him that he has to get a flauta because they don't have taquitos. You'd be surprised how many places can screw up a quesadilla but they were spot on here. The cheese was fatty and flavorful and they were cooked to perfection. I'm going to try and make it back before we leave because I want to experience the horchata and order a few more things.
La Playa is on Mission Blvd, you can't miss it... And you shouldn't miss it. The food was tasteful and the family that runs the restaurant is nice and friendly. I ordered the Eggs Ranchero with one side of Steak and it was delicious!! This little dining house has outside seats. When we visited the restaurant, they only offered a seat outside. They have both covered and uncovered outdoor seating. They still took precautions.
This place is such a hole in a wall! They actually offer fresh, promising and delicious tacos! Service seems friendly for such a place. The price seems a bit high for the place, but quite delicious food. Nothing imagination, very casual like fast food. Order at the counter, find a table and quite a lot of self-service.
We have tried a number of different Taco joints in San Diego and that was definitely one of our favorites. There were generous help from amazing guacamole that was every taco that was a treat. Tried the Carnitas and Al Pastor and was not abandoned. Would definitely recommend order and then walk to the beach to enjoy some delicious tacos.
