Sunday Gather - San Francisco

I used to really enjoy eating at this restaurant, but since they updated their menu, I don't see a reason to return. If they bring back the Kimchi Fried Rice or the pulled pork sandwich/smashburger, I will definitely come back.

I really had no idea this was a Hawaiian BBQ spot until I inadvertently sauntered into their unique courtyard on Third Street. Flanked by a long wooden boardwalk, it appeared to be a garden where they placed chairs and tables around the boxed plantings. Nice idea though it was completely vacant when I was there. In fact, I couldn't tell if they were open as it appeared the staff was busy in the back of their operation. It gave me time to review the Hawaiian favorites they offered. I landed on the $12 Huli Chicken BBQ Plate with Mac Salad and White Rice. A few minutes later, out came a box with two succulent thighs, highly caramelized and still quite tender along with hearty scoops of Hawaiian style mac salad and white rice sprinkled with green onions (photo: As good as that was, the scene stealer was the $3.50 Ube Snickerdoodle which was moist, sweet, and yes, quite purple (photo: I've had an ube donut before but not a cookie like this. It's worth repeating for sure. FOOD 4 stars...well executed Hawaiian comfort food AMBIANCE 4 stars...the patio setting was a welcome sight in the urbania of Bayview SERVICE 3.5 stars..,a bit slow but came around as others ambled in TOTAL 4 stars...are there more Sundays coming? Tried a few dishes today and the highlight was the chicken katsu with garlic noodles. Chicken was cooked perfectly, crunchy, and tender. Noodles was buttery, sweet, and had a bit of a kick.

The restaurant has a very cool atmosphere with friendly staff. The food was delicious and there were plenty of great coffee options. And don't forget about the bread - it's so good it feels totally acceptable to indulge in those carbs.

This place is unbelievable and reasonably priced. The service is great. Perfect restaurant for a gathering, as the name suggests
