Had a date night here to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary. This was our second time here after about ten or so years. Same owner and same great guy and service. The waiter gave us a round of sake to celebrate. Food was excellent as always. Incredible and fresh uni- if you're into that sort of thing. The omasake is the way to go- they'll ask you what you like but I'd recommend going with the chief's choices. I end up trying something new every time that I usually wouldn't order but end up liking a lot. Great date spot in a cool part of the city. Highly recommend.
Happy to have this spot on Balboa! We got the Notorious V.E.G. and the veggie vixen, along with a seared sablefish nigiri special. It was all delicious!Service was friendly, prompt, and on top of it.We sat outside on a nice day. They even have some pull-down sheets to keep out the wind.
I am so sorry that I returned to this place. Ten years ago, it was so much better. I used to tell friends about Sushi Bistro and how it was my favorite sushi restaurant because they had delicious nigiri sushi with generous slices of fish. I even gave them a five star rating on yelp. Now it 's like a totally different restaurant! I ordered the 49er roll, and the slices of salmon on top were probably 3 to 4 mm. They aren 't thick enough to be described in inches. The rest of the sushi was filled up with an inordinate amount of avocado. I like avocado, but not as a substitute for salmon. They should call it the avocado roll. I am so disappointed! I asked the waiter if they had changed ownership, but he said that it was the same owner. My guess is that the owner must be getting complacent because they have thousands of four-star reviews. However, this recent experience does not reflect the four-star ratings! I left the restaurant, feeling very dissatisfied and still hungry because I could not finish the roll. I was especially disappointed because I was looking forward to returning to my favorite restaurant, but it turned out to be a completely different restaurant even though the ownership has not changed. Oh, and the prices are way too high for what you get. I would advise potential diners to read the more recent reviews to get a clear picture of what this restaurant is like right now. Ten years ago, I was one of the satisfied customers who gave this place a 5-star review, but after tonight 's meal, I will never go back.
Been getting takeout here weekly for like two years (kids , figured it's probably time to write a review. Top tier sushi. Also, the udon is my favorite in the city our toddler can eat an entire order himself. Other good dishes include bistro salad, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and veggie gyoza. Oh, and good selection of icey cold beer. Hoping to get to eat in one day!
