Horrible atmosphere. Went in with an infant to dine in. As soon as we entered the restaurant it was super chilly and they denied to close the front door as their AC was not working. They never served water for like 20 mins while we were waiting and we had to ask the server for it. They never had what I wanted on the menu since it was listed as a special, and when asked the server had us order an alternative on clover and said he will update the correct order on his side. My order came to the table after 30 mins and guess what, the order was wrong since it was never updated as the server promised us.My correct order came 10 mins later and it was burnt. When told, the server said SORRY. It was a total disaster, never returning to this place.
So contradicting to the name “Dhaba”, this place serves one of the best South Indian meal I have had in the Bay Area. On weekends, do not miss their lunch buffet which is served on a banana leaf. Parotta is straight out of Madurai, so flaky and soft. Ambur Mutton biriyani is the best and fish curry is very good. It’s take a bit longer to get a table so be prepared to wait on a weekend, but it should be worth it.
If I could this place a negative score, I would. Let me break it down. Service The person at the front desk who takes the orders seemed like they didn't want to be there. Half the menu items weren't available. The person didn't even know what some of the menu items meant. Food It's mostly microwaved food in porcelain bowls. We were missing quite a bit of salt/seasoning. We got the appam, chicken curry, poori and mushroom curry. The appam and poori's were cold and hard. The curries were burning hot (temperature wise). It's a crime to serve mediocre Indian food when there are so many amazing Indian restaurants in the South Bay. For the quality of food and service, the prices are outrageous. $20 for one cold appam and microwaved chicken curry. Like I mentioned above, it should be a crime to be this mediocre. In addition, this place is also confused with its identity they serve everything from a Caesar salad to idiyappam. Do me a favor, don't go here!
Loved the kalyana virundhu experience Amazing food, good service and ambience. Before we could call anyone and ask for an item, they visit your table and ask if you need anything :
