It's certainly not the tightest operation being run, so be ready to adapt on the service front, but for their solid portions of deliciousness I'd sure be ready for plenty more rounds. Overall I'd place it at 4.5, but I'm comfortable rounding up on strength of their menu. Service is well, serviceable, but a slight weakness on their front so I can see where mixed reviews come from. Our server was polite, but shorter on words when asking for recommendations so it seems a bit of a given you're expected to know what's what already. Food came out sequentially, so while it wasn't too long of a wait it was a bit of an awkward one since it still took 20min for the last entree to come out. We were mostly left alone afterwards so it was hard to flag any server down to let them know my entree was missing its queso and my brother's entree was missing tortillas (which I wouldn't have known if I didn't compare to my friend's sets . Then came time to settle the check which had an error to correct. Each thing by itself is fine, but it all added up to a bit more chaos than I'd prefer so YMMV. That all said the food is banger! I'd say it's enough to make it up for it, it also being a rather super-local hole-in-the-wall. The menu is grouped mostly by meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner and then by item type (like specials, soup, seafood, etc. . Dinner plates generally with rice, beans, and tortilla. Cheese pupusa 4/5 Solid on texture with a good amount of cheesiness for the books, plus a nice small lightly pickled salad for contrasting crunch. The dipping salsa was rather light though, which I personally feel like overall it tasted a bit light on seasoning (fine as an appetizer of sorts . Could just be a honduran thing though, cause the entrees were on-point on seasoning. Carne Asada dinner 5/5 Honestly it's a pretty great dinner set that I had trouble finishing with a great amount of variety to keep you on your culinary toes. The plantain chips were perfect with a great crisp and oozing flavor (even the spilled salsa that was meant for the beef tasted great on them . Beef was a tough cut but I hardly noticed with how well seasoned it was and it just melded right in with the rice and beans, plus a nice crunch from pickles on top. Just all around deliciousness on a platter. Cerdo Tamales 5/5 Positively massive and very filling. The chicken was damn near the most tender and soft I've ever had it. Like for real, this has set the bar for softness for chicken. Very nice as a cozy meal and lots of loving carbs. Just the right amount of seasoning on everything to to bring out the flavors without being overbearing and a great amount of cheese to complement the corn/rice.
*First time review, dined indoors* We wanted to try something different and went to Maya's! The second we walked through the door, the lady working greeted us warmly with a smile. Super sweet and sat us down. We were brought chips, salsa and ordered orange soda and coke. Hugeeeee bottles omg. Delicious ice cold in the glass. Bacon wrapped shrimp: 5/5 crispy bacon and perfectly cooked shrimp, not over cooked! Huge and 6 total (our photo shows 5 because too hungry to wait! Wet burrito: 4/5 shredded chicken with red sauce. Taste was great just wish there was a tad more chicken as it was primarily rice. Very good, would order again. Really want to try the beef plate they had. Really love the warm servers and would come back for that!
I just want to start off saying I was absolutely mindblown by the food here. To begin, every single protein: the seafood in the seafood soup, the spicy shrimp, the porkchop with plantains (Chuleta Sampredrana , had that perfect amount of moisture that made every bite satisfying. (What's even more amazing is that I'm eating the leftovers this morning and the meat still isn't dry after I reheated my food! Next, every single sauce/flavor was bomb. I don't know what they used. The pork chop had some sort of mustard cream and red cream combo going that I cannot get enough of (and as a cheese hater relieved this dish doesn't have cheese , the spicy sauce for the shrimp was sweet, and the soup with it's coconut base is a reminiscent of Southeast Asian cuisine. Honestly, all of it was total surprise to my tastebuds. Furthermore, their handmade tortillas, both flour and corn, are bomb and actually distinct in flavor and texture (flour reminds me a bit of roti/pita . They are both fantastic and if you get a chance to try both you should. I don't know how to make my point clearer that every one of those dishes was fantastic and the food here will be something I dream about and crave moving forward. Plaintains are better than than potatoes!!!
I recently had the pleasure of trying the barbacoa de res plate at Maya's cafe, and it was outstanding! The meat was incredibly tasty and succulent, bursting with rich flavors that left me craving more. The tender barbacoa was expertly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and simply melted in my mouth. What truly elevated this dish were the handmade tortillas served on the side. They were warm, soft, and had that authentic, homemade touch. Each bite was a perfect combination of the juicy barbacoa and the warm tortilla, creating a mouthwatering symphony of flavors. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients was evident in every aspect of this plate. The presentation was impeccable, and the portion size was generous. The friendly staff provided excellent service, making the overall dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're a fan of Latin cuisine or simply appreciate delicious food, I highly recommend trying the barbacoa de res plate at this establishment. It's a true gem!
Dear Yelp users, Before posting any reviews, please kindly consider evaluating businesses based on their merit and the quality of their food, rather than solely focusing on their ambience. This is especially important for small businesses, as they may not have the resources to create a luxurious atmosphere like a five star hotel. Let's support and judge these establishments based on what truly matters the excellence of their offerings. The food was excellent, based on my friend's recommendation, I ordered Chile Verde. The meat was tender and was cooked perfectly. 2 flour tortillas were served with the meal and they were made fresh. Although the the food was late, and the waitress was so kind but she could not understand us very well, OVERALL THE FOOD WAS WORTH IT.
