It's Tabu Sushi Grill - San Marcos

After a day of running around, I was eager to escape the heat, sit down, and enjoy some delicious sushi. Host Sara greeted me with a warm smile and took my order right away since I already knew what I wanted. The garlic edamame and shrimp tempura were fantastic and exactly what I needed. We ordered four rolls, but nearly 40 minutes after placing our order, only the first roll was served. Then, around 10 minutes later, we received the second roll, and we're still waiting on the last two. There seemed to be almost as many staff members as there were guests in the restaurant, including at least three sushi chefs. Unfortunately, the salmon roe wasn't fresh, and we had to send it back. The overall experience was quite disappointing, and the state of the bathroom was absolutely unacceptable. We won’t be returning.

The hostess with the Harley Quinn hairstyle was quite rude, but the bartender and the other hostess with wavy hair were incredibly helpful and friendly. They assisted us in choosing our rolls, got us seated, and ensured we were well-fed. We really enjoyed our time there, and the rolls were fantastic. The only roll I didn’t care for was the dynamite roll; it had a strange taste. However, everything else was delicious—the stuffed jalapeños, the sexy roll, and the other six rolls we ordered were all amazing. We also enjoyed hot sake and Japanese beer. The local regulars in the restaurant were laid-back and fun, sharing good vibes and recommendations, which is why we ended up trying so many rolls. Overall, it was a great experience!

I love everything about this place. Seriously one of the best sushi places in North County SD. You seriously can taste the freshness of the sushi. Customer service is great but the food does take long so we usually order once we order our drinks. That's how much we love coming here and already know the menu!Food: 5/5

The service here somehow seems to keep getting worse every time I come. We used to frequent this place twice a month but the last three times in a row have all been below par. From the bartender who has better than to make drinks (god forbid you ask him to fix the drink he makes) to the servers who allow the food to die in the window after the chefs make it. I give a three because the food is fresh and if you end up sitting at the sushi bar it's better service.
