Calgang Thai Eatery - San Rafael

Nice to have a good Thai place in town, convenient near Safeway. The noodles were not oily as all the other places in Marin and still had a lot of taste. Ordering a combination plate is a great way to try more items. Fish was unexpectedly spicy, which was slightly disappointing (can not even taste it because it was so spicy), but I will be back to try the other dishes. Portion sizes will always be small in California... I'll take it someday. Update: came back to try other dishes! All the noodles we have tried so far are delicious! You have included my request for Pad woon sen (glass noodles) although it is not on the menu so that a 5-star rating guarantees!

This is a great place to go for lunch or pick up to go food on the way home. There is a variety to choose from and some food is spicy while some is not. This works well for me and the Thai Fried Rice is a favorite with or without the chili sauce! The food seems fresh, well prepared and delicious!

This is more of a white/American style Thai restaurant. When I first went there, I ordered Chicken La. I couldn't taste the fish sauce or lemongrass. I decided to give it a second attempt. Order Tom Ga today. As you can see, it just looks like coconut soup without curry paste. Usually the red curry paste floats up. They also have cabbages in it. This took all the Tom Ga smell and tasted from the soup. 2/5 for food and 5/5 for service.

Love this place especially if I have little time. Service buffet actually has delicious items. Favourites are green curry tofu with pumpkin and the eggplant with basil.

I'm not sure what happened, but the quality of the ingredients and all the flavors (buffet elements) have worsened. The chicken used to be tender and cloby, but now it is thin and has a consistency and taste that makes me think it was frozen before cooking. The curries have become a little watery. The eggplant was so delicious with a black beans or oyster sauce taste, but now it is unconsistent; Sometimes it is okay and other times it is very oily and bland. That was my place, almost daily lunch! I hope they can make some changes to improve them. It was really an outstanding place for the start.
