5 stars for the service! I'd rate the BBQ and food at 4 stars, but the service was exactly what you hope for. The woman at the register was very friendly, and the food was served promptly. There are also sauces and paper towels available at the table, so everything you need is right there—just like a good Southern establishment should be. The portion size was decent; I plan to come back and try some of the other sides. As for the sandwich, it was spot on! A generous amount of meat, and it made for a filling meal. They encourage you to add sauce to the sandwich, and while I love a good vinegar sauce being from the South, I found it to be rather bland. Overall, I intend to return to sample more items, but I would definitely recommend this place, especially for the great service and warm atmosphere!

I was en route to another restaurant when Hillbilly Red caught my attention. I'm really glad I decided to turn around and give it a try! The staff was extremely friendly, and the decor was really appealing. I ordered the pork BBQ plate with baked beans and greens as my two sides, and I added a quarter chicken. The BBQ was quite good, although it was more chopped than pulled. The green beans were almost as delicious as what my grandma makes, and the baked beans did not disappoint either. They were served in a thick sauce that wasn't overly sweet. My favorite, though, was the smoked chicken; it exceeded my expectations—it was very juicy and flavorful! I'm really glad I stopped in!

This is a great BBQ community I found on a business trip. This isn't a frying job at the counter. The Bbq was great, I had the brisket that wasn't dry at all. The frits were freshly cooked. Service was top notch. I will certainly make it a point again.

I'm mad..... Mad that I live too far away from this place to eat here regularly. Wow is the brisket a thing of beauty it's so moiste and flavor packed. The greenbeans were perfect as was the homemade Coleslaw. It's on the high side of prices but it's worth every penny not to say it was expensive by any means. You get what you pay for. If you want to pay medium prices you get medium quality BBQ. If you want outstanding BBQ that was made with a passion then you gotta pay just a tiny bit more. I will be stopping here every time I come to Richmond from now on. I will skip that other BBQ place off 64 from here on out. Thanks Red whoever you are you BBQ master.
