Forge and Thistle Wee Pub and Dining Room

We had an amazing dinner at the Forge, the best of the season. I ordered the catch of the day, which was excellent and a great value. My partner had the bangers and mash and enjoyed it as well. We make it a point to visit this restaurant every year and should definitely go more often.

We showed up without reservations, luckily they got us in right away. We were promptly served by the friendly waitress. We ordered the fish cakes which were delicious! Our mains were, the Forge burger which was fresh and very tasty and the Lamb curry which was very delicious. Served with a small amount of rice and 2 pieces of nann bread. It was overall a great place to visit. There was a selection of beers there I would have loved to try as well. We would definitely go again!

It was looking forward to this anniversary meal. I ordered the perch special which I was told was featured with a mango topping the ingredient that swayed me in choosing this feature. When it arrived, I couldn't taste any mango which left me puzzled and disappointed. The mashed potatoes were creamy but seemed only slightly warmer than room temperature and certainly not hot enough for the refrigerated butter patties. The steamed carrots and peas were fine and the perch was nicely cooked but I like my meal to be hot and this was not the case. If you like bland it would have been a good choice, but, I was looking for special flavours which I was not getting. It was disappointing that the waiter did not check on us until we were almost finished our entrée. When he asked about the meal I explained my disappointment. He later returned and confessed he made a mistake and it was really an apple topping on the fish but they would make things right. The compensation was free dessert. Although my husband's schnitzel was hot and tasty,and we have enjoyed eating here in the past, I am thinking it is unlikely we will return.

I have dined at this restaurant several times. The food is consistently delicious and the staff is very friendly. It's like a little piece of home if you are from overseas. I highly recommend giving it a try.

This restaurant in Southampton is at the top of my list for dining. It has a fantastic pub atmosphere, amazing salmon dishes, and excellent service.
