Alquimista Restaurant - Sayulita

We stumbled upon this awesome spot at the junction of Av. Revolucion and Calle Libertard towards the end of our time in Sayulita and wish we had found it earlier, we would have kept going back. The serve organic coffee, agua frescas, tortas, chilaquiles, tacos,...and more. Our year old daughter loved creating her own smoothie and is still talking about it all these weeks later.

Alquimista is a hidden gem, just in the middle of the road between Sayulita's downtown and the highway. Coffee was not that bad, it was actually better than most other places in Sayulita, but still under-extracted and over-toasted for my very high standards. Food is...typical Mexican of the region, tasty, good sizes of portions, almost home-made flavor but also enough of restaurant flavor. Juices were good, wifi worked, the road is not that noisy, the corner is quite relaxed and good. Oh and prices are on the cheaper side of Sayulita. Actually, this place has perhaps the better price to quality ratio in all Sayulita. The options and flavors are better at Miscelanea, but prices there are double. This is a good spot for breakfast and food several times a week.

Had a fantastic breakfast here — loved the chilaquiles with great tomatillo sauce, plus an amazing pineapple basil aqua fresca. Waitress was super friendly, and very willing to make substitutions/alterations to orders. Very cute, shady outdoor spot to sit and eat. A little quieter than...the main area of Sayulita, which was a welcome change to relax and unwind!

I ate at Alquimista multiple times during my few days in Sayulita, initially because of the location close to where I was staying and then because it was SO GOOD. My favorite was the breakfast sandwich (torta desayuno), which is this absolutely pillowy bread stuffed with egg, cheese, avocado, and beans. The salsas and guacamole were perfect -- fresh and bright. The cheese flautas were out of control comfort food. The aqua frescas were awesome -- I had both the pineapple basil and the strawberry ginger. The owner, Javi, is incredibly friendly. Will definitely be back here on my next trip.

We ate here a lot during our two weeks in Sayulita. Chef Javi has carefully crafted a simple but varied menu that is a joy to sample! It is traditional Mexican food but with a twist - what is in the breadcrumbs on the popcorn chicken?! What is in the dressing on the Ensalada?! Definitely worth the 2 block walk from the Placita along Avenida Revolucion. Highly recommend this spot!
