The soft drinks were served in glasses that smelled like alcohol. Overall, the experience was far from great. Stay away, and definitely don't visit this restaurant if you want a pleasant dining experience.
I recently visited this restaurant and was extremely impressed with the service. The staff is very welcoming and the atmosphere is perfect for socializing.
I see the last review of this pub was in and it's little surprise that the establishment seems to be seldom visited. It's never nice to give a village pub a poor review but there is simply nothing to recommend about the Red Lion....In fact I am curious as to why it is still open given the dearth of patrons on an early summer Saturday afternoon. First impressions are that the place is very tatty, poorly lit, old stained furniture and a handful of men stood around the bar exchanging expletives. The one bar staff, it has to be said, was very friendly and the selection of beer on offer was good. Repairing to the beer garden (a more welcome alternative to the dreary interior) it soon becomes apparent that that area is littered with old children's toys and waste bins that really needed moving out of sight. It just adds to the unkempt feel of the whole place. How does the place stay open? There is no food on offer and I struggled to see that the bar take could pay for the overheads. We quickly drained our glasses and moved on. There will be no return visit any time soon. The place is in urgent need of investment, refurbishment and a good kitchen or it surely has to close?
Great selection of local ales at affordable prices. The atmosphere is pleasant with friendly staff and regulars. Much better than the Owl where we stayed. The only drawback is that they don't serve food. I would have loved to dine here.
