We decided to drop by the Prince Of Wales for a Sunday lunch, as we've enjoyed several lovely meals there in the past. We were seated right away and excitedly looked over the menu, focusing on the 'roast' section. I had a hard time choosing, so I was pleased to see an option for a 'trio' of meats with additional sides. However, it turned out to be a bit smaller than expected and cost £2 more than a regular roast, which left me having to finish off my mother-in-law's roast beef. As I mentioned, I can be a bit greedy! On the bright side, I did enjoy a scrumptious chocolate brownie with caramel ice cream for dessert, so I left feeling satisfied. I'll definitely return, but next time, I might try something different.
If I were to rate the service based on how terrible it was, I would give it a definite 5/5. Around 7:28 pm on November 28th, my 19-year-old brother was denied a single pint of lager. Despite explaining the law, which allows anyone aged 16 or 17 to have an alcoholic beverage with their meal, we were repeatedly told that it was "company policy." This is particularly frustrating considering my brother is 19 (he'll be 20 in January), in his second year at university, and it's quite rare for him to be asked for ID, even on nights out. The food was enjoyable, but the poor service has definitely made me hesitant about returning.
This is a fantastic establishment that combines a pub and restaurant. It's quite spacious with a lovely outdoor terrace and ample parking available. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff are very friendly. They stay open until 12:30 AM on weekends, although I vaguely recall leaving after 1:15 AM just the other week—ha! The place is also open throughout the day, making it a great spot for business meetings over a meal, which I've enjoyed there. It stands out from typical pubs and is located in a nicer part of the city, specifically on the southwestern edge along Ecclesall Road South. This makes it an ideal starting point for a night out, as it's an easy downhill walk if you're not driving. There are taxis available almost every minute if you need a quick ride to a different venue, and there's a bus stop just 75 yards away.
