Írjon visszajelzéstFeel that this bowl of laksa is very different from the usual I normally have. Packed with rich, full bodied taste, creamy and spiciness with plenty ingredients such as fish cakes, shrimps, cockles. The thick vermicelli is cut into shorter strands, so there are no chopsticks or fork given, only a spoon. A spoonful of laksa so satisfying
Decided to give the 'best ' laksa taste test a go. Headed down to this mall that has both Janggut and 328, situated practically face-in-your-face at the main atrium. The 328 version is more robust, and spicier, even before mixing in the chilli paste, as one can tell from the yellow-er soup. It is also thicker, creamier, and has that stronger umami taste due to it the dried shrimps used. It is equally delish, but I prefer Janggut 's simply because the refreshing herbal taste and I felt that polishing off a whole bowl of 328, may make me a tad 'jelak '.
The medium size laksa $7) and the otah $1.40) were not bad. The laksa had fresh though small cockles and small prawns.
Still one of the best laksa in the world : All the spices and ingredients are mixed in the balanced delicious bowl. Don't expect chopsticks though, everybody eat with spoon. You can choose a regular or jumbo bowl, all will be served fast, even faster than the fast junk foods.
Review: It’s still pretty good, if not one of the best but maybe nostalgia was missing. If you asked me a few years ago, I would have straight up given 328 Katong Laksa a 5 star review. But for some reason this most recent bowl of laksa seems to have missed a little bit of something special. Don’t get me wrong it’s still delicious, and the hype around Gordon Ramsay losing the famous Hawker Challenge 2013 was well justified. I would still say it is worth a visit if you’re thinking of checking out Singapore Laksa. But! I remember how it used to be many years ago and it just wasn’t the same. Maybe because the accompanying chilli now comes In a plastic packet and isn’t free flow, and the price seems to have gone up again. I never fail to come when I am in this area (and it isn’t the easiest of places to get to either) but I’m beginning to wonder if complacency mixed with grab home delivery and the lack of friendliness from the service staff will be the ultimate downfall of a historic Singaporean gem. I hope it still is here on my next visit, but perhaps there is some desire to explore another place that tugs at my stomach strings the way this place used to.
