Finnie's Next Door Bar Grill

A pretty good music selection with good bartenders and a great dance floor.

It was noisy but enjoyable! However, being charged $5 for a glass of water was outrageous.

The restaurant was not enjoyable at night and the security was overly aggressive. I was not allowed to leave through the front door and was physically grabbed by a security officer and told to use the side door. The speaker by the door was not heard, so there was no reason to grab me. I have left through the front door before without any problems. It is difficult to have a good time when security behaves in such a manner. Additionally, at times they require a student ID for entry, which is frustrating considering the business likely relies on customers who are not students.

Expensive drinks served in cheap plastic cups, shots are served in plastic cups you’d put ketchup in at a restaurant, they charge for water (don’t know of any other bar in the area that does that), upstairs with the pool tables/air hockey is hardly ever open, security is ruder than any other establishment in town (even Brothers, and that’s saying something), and you need a student ID to get in after 11pm (even on the Saturday after thanksgiving when lots of students are out of town). Place was half empty and still got denied entry due to lack of student ID. To top it all off, they have the audacity to charge a cover to get in. They used to be my favorite spot in town years back, but doubt I’ll ever return. They want to be a high class club, but they’re far from that. Despite being located in south bend, there are still better options to spend a night out than this place.

I spoke with the owner outside about the situation, but he showed no concern. To make matters worse, my out-of-town friends then walked in without any IDs, claiming they were regulars even though they had never been there before. This blatant discrimination was disheartening and really ruined the birthday celebration. When I tried to discuss the issue respectfully with the owner, the security became hostile and asked me if I would appreciate someone coming to my job to tell me how to do it. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will never be returning to this restaurant. I hope the owner never has to go through what we experienced.
