Backyard Betty's - South Boston

We started with the deviled eggs, which were overly mustardy and lacked other flavors. We then both ordered the chicken and waffles, only to be quickly disappointed. The waffles we received were cold—not just at room temperature, but actually cold, as if they'd been pre-made and stored in the fridge. As the first customers of brunch, we expected everything to be fresh and perfect. I got the impression that the kitchen didn’t quite get it right, as the waffle was gone before we finished the chicken. The manager came over to apologize for our poorly prepared meal. He removed both items from our bill and offered to bring us new orders of chicken and waffles. This time, the food arrived hot and the waffle was quite delicious. It came topped with a huge fried chicken breast, almost the same size as the waffle, and a generous dollop of butter on the chicken. While the waffle was tasty, I found that the flavor of the fried chicken got lost in all that butter. It reminded me of taking homemade fried chicken and drowning it in butter. The fried chicken should shine on its own. I sincerely hope that others have a better experience than we did.

The pub food is average, and the beer selection is nothing special. It tends to be quite noisy, and the service is rather slow. It might appeal to younger crowds seeking a vibrant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the dishes lacked freshness and were served lukewarm. The nachos needed a better balance between toppings and chips, and overall, the food was overly salty.

Wings are excellent, good size and definitely quality chicken. You can get them dry or sauced. You get about 8 wings for $11 which is fairly priced. Onion rings are awesome as well. They're very big and really, really thick. Pretty sure they actually put cheese in them as well giving them a unique taste. Probably my favorite onion rings to date. The Nashville hot chicken.... Now this is where things switch up. The chicken itself is very tasty, perfectly seasoned and cooked, and of great quality. However, it wasn't spicy at all. Although it tasted awesome, it was definitely lacking in the heat department, and this is someone who's a pansy when it comes to spice. Overall a greater place, lots of items to choose from, and great vibe. They have a couple arcade games, two bars, and a corn hole area. Definitely going back and would highly recommend for a laid back lunch dinner.

I recently visited the first new restaurant in South Boston with my family. We arrived around 4 PM, and while the kitchen didn’t open until 5 PM, it wasn’t a problem at all. We sat at the bar and the service was fantastic. I have no complaints about the drinks, food, or service. I highly recommend Backyard Betty’s. Welcome to South Boston!

We had an amazing time celebrating a birthday here. The staff managed our group of 15 effortlessly! Everyone was incredibly friendly, the atmosphere was delightful, and the food and drinks were fantastic. Thank you for providing such a wonderful experience!
