Tia Cita - South Houston

I was working in the area and decided to eat Mexican food. Tia María's is pretty big inside. I was seated in a booth. The chips and wonderful salsa were served. The salsa was warm and the chips not too greasy. This place is not ideal for vegetarians. I believe everything on the lunch specials menu has meat. I ordered three fish tacos. You get three on double corn tortillas. The accompanying side of rice is generous. Plus you get avocado, red cabbage and a sort of ranch dressing. The serving is generous and reasonably priced, about $10. Music is ranchera. I overheard a waiter call a client jefe. Now why wasn't I called jefa.

Good cheap and always fast Nothing fancy but always good This is the type of place that treats you like family when you walk in.

NEVER FAILS TO SATISFY! Great food , at an unbeatable price. Chips and salsa is to die for in my opinion , that green sauce is addictive. I order the same plate every time i come here. Huevos rancheros. I get my eggs scrambled without the salsa because i like to make lil breakfast tacos and the salsa is too much for me. I like to keep it simple for the most part. Soon i will venture into trying their fajitas and other items. I visit this restaurant exclusively for that breakfast plate : I Cannot forget to mention that The staff is always alert and mindful towards the guests , very polite and respectful. They run this place like a marathon. The wait time is sensible to your party size : Ill always have this restaurant in my mind when i'm around it. Thank y'all for some of the best meals i've had. This is a study in contrasts. The food is consistently good. The menu prices have not been modified in a decade. Everything is so very cozy and dependable.Quick tips:1. Piña coladas are excellent. The margaritas are solid, but the piñas are better.2. If you order tacos, get them taco bell style or they will be open faced.3. The Chunky Guacamole is the best thing on the menu. At $12, it is twice the size of any guacamole you would get at any other restaurant. It has 2 giant avocados and yummy tomatoes, onions, and cilantro.We go three to four times per month, but no one remembers us. No worries. The service is still good.

We used to be regular customers here, but stopped going when they reopened from the pandemic because the service was slow (and rude) and the food quality had deteriorated. However, we decided last night to give them another try. Our food was good and our waiter was attentive. However, we arrived at 8:30, received our food around 8:45, and when we asked for a second beer right around 9 PM (closing time), we were told by the manager, Hector, that they couldn 't serve us because they were closed . We felt rushed and packed up our food and left. On the way to our car, the security guard, a relative of the manager, asked why we were upset and we told him. He recommended that we speak to Pedro and he would make it right . So this morning, we did speak to Pedro. We got a call back from Cindy (another manager, I assume) who apologized, but was full of excuses and reasons for the behavior of her manager. She also accused my husband of calling the manager a rude name, which didn 't happen. You may also know that they offer complimentary ice cream. As we were leaving, my husband stopped to get some ice cream. The cones were in a box not a dispenser and had to be pulled out in a stack to pick one. This is not a great idea when COVID is still present, nor is it sanitary in the best of times. Further, the ice cream was basically liquid. My husband discussed this with Cindy, and she stated that they shut the machine down 30 minutes prior to closing to defrost it. Is this even safe? Does the ice cream reach a temperature that isn 't healthy? She had no good reason for the cones being in the box and accessible to everyone 's dirty hands. It 's definitely safe to say that this is the last chance we 'll give Tia Maria and good luck to those of you who choose to eat there.
