The Lotus - South Lakeland

I've been a resident of Ulverston for over 2 decades, and when The Lotus first opened I became a regular because it presented more restaurant style versions of the typical takeaway, very fresh and not too heavy. But in recent times I'm not sure what's going on, maybe because of lack of custom due to lock down they've decided to rely on certain elements being cooked from frozen. Sweet and sour pork is one of my favourite dishes, and some time last year I ordered this to extreme disappointment when the deep fried battered pork was extremely overcooked, hard as bullets with the insides so dry it was like saw dust. It certainly put me off returning to this establishment for quite a while. Then the other day I thought I'd give them another chance, as perhaps they just may have had a bad day last time, but the same thing happened again, rock hard bullets with saw dust inside! The rest of the dish was OK, the stir fried veg element being quite fresh and the sauce really tasty, but unfortunately when the main part of the dish is inedible it kind of ruins the whole thing.

After recently moving to ulverston I have been trying various take aways. The lotus staff were friendly and the food was made to high standards. Will definitely be coming back to try something new !

We use the Lotus for a take away about once a month … never been disappointed… The order is always right and freshly cooked and they have always been spot on with the time given

A very proficient takeaway .... well organised, efficient always keep to their time slot. Food fresh hot. Have eaten-in before CoV (currently takeaway only)... had great food, although the decor is somewhat faded

Whilst on holiday, we popped in here to get a takeaway after a day of walking. Ordered chicken black bean and chicken chow mein with spring rolls. Everything was cooked quickly and efficiently and piping hot with complimentary prawn crackers. Good quality food. Would recommend. Cash only though, so beware!
