Rose Inn - Southend-on-Sea

I'm not sure if they were short-staffed or if something else was happening, but we visited on a Sunday and waited an hour and five minutes for our main courses. About 40 minutes in, a staff member checked to see if our food had arrived and said he would ask the kitchen, but he never returned to update us. We continued to wait, assuming our meals were on their way. I ordered the fishcakes, which unfortunately arrived with parts of the coating burnt. The pub itself is absolutely charming, but the service just didn’t meet expectations.

I recently visited The Rose Inn for the first time, and it was a delightful experience. I went with my family, including both adults and children, and we all decided to try the Sunday roasts. We were not disappointed! The food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. The desserts were just as enjoyable, making for a truly relaxing afternoon; we could have easily stayed much longer. The staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the pub itself is beautiful. The average cost per person was around £20–30.

Used to be, effectively, my regular. As always, a warm, friendly welcome. Attentive staff. Fair priced drinks (for South Essex). A wet Saturday night Halloween event, with band AOB. Just very chilled, with rocky overtones. Standard menu, which from experience is perfectly fine. Specials menu looks lush. Enjoyed my walk down memory lane immensely. Won't leave it so long until my next visit. Service: 5
