The Rose Inn - Southend-on-Sea

I came here for years and eating was always ok, I visited last weekend with some friends and the new menu looked great, but was such a disappointment. I ordered a cake and the baked was so hard that instead of letting itself cut, it completely flips over on my teller a friend ordered the risotto and instead creamy and soft was hard and tasteless. the pub itself is great! the waitress was beautiful, the beer garden is fantastic for children and will go back to the occasional pint, but as a restaurant it was bad.

The first time here, first impressions of the service was blunt and almost like us an inconvenience that the pub was not busy. we sat outside, as it has a good small climbing frame for young children. the menu sounded delicious, I ordered a vegan burger who...solte with sweet chili and mango sauce come. when it arrived, the soße was nowhere to see, only a dry bungalow and very dry kichererbsenpatty with a leaf salat. I asked where the sauce was and the waitress said they weren't sure if the sauce was vegan, so she left. (why was it on the menu then I answered, I don't want to eat so please. she comes back and says that they have fled from the sose (finally the truth). the children carrot and gurkenfinger were so old and dry that they became white. I wouldn't let my little children eat, I didn't see that veg as this god knows how long they were tied. they are not served for children with the soße promised and we had to ask for it. my partner meal was poor. unexistent veg and only stems from “Tenderstamm Broccoli” when I asked for tomato sauce, the waitress asked me to follow her to knife and fork and to collect sosss. what I like to do, but over all the service was as strange as I said before, we were an inconvenience. cheap food, but it is not worth paying a penny. can get better meals from aldi. for a nice pub experience I recommend the bullen in hockley

Very busy small pub but more catering for eating. many outside seats and a restaurant and a bar area. dogs welcome in the bar and outside. personal friendly and eating well, I had the southern fried chicken burger, which is larger than average and vey good. my man had the steak and ale cake he enjoyed very much.

Review A friend in her 90's phoned 5.3.22 to book a table for Sunday Lunch the next day. She was told you can't book over the phone, you have to do it online . She explained she was 90 and had no Internet..... was told...to wait whilst the manager was consulted. After a while she was told the manager had been spoken to and they were fully booked! BUT on being contacted by my friend I went online and was able to book a table??!! Needless to say I didn't book as clearly they either misled my friend by saying they were fully booked to get her off the phone or just couldn't be bothered to book it electronically on her behalf. If this is an indication of their customer service then it does not bode well.
