Albert's Standish

Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. For my starter, I had mushrooms on toast, followed by a beef main course and a selection of cheeses and desserts. The mushrooms on toast were decent, though a bit cold, but they were difficult to eat due to their long, thin strands. The bread, while delicious, was soggy in the center and only crispy around the edges, thanks to the sauce and olive oil that made it mushy—not the most enjoyable experience. For the main course, I believe it was braised beef on the bone served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans, mashed potatoes, and gravy were fine, but the beef was mostly fat, and the little bit of meat I could salvage was tough. I requested a change to my main dish since I couldn't eat the beef, but the manager declined, citing they were too busy. I've included a photo showing the fat left on my plate after I "finished" my meal; I ended up eating just the potatoes and green beans. The dessert selection was the highlight of the meal, featuring profiteroles, chocolate mousse, pecan tarts, macaroons, and a pot of cream, alongside grapes, berries, red peppers, gherkins, blue cheese, cranberry cheese, cheddar, and some nice crackers. On the service front, our bar and wait staff were friendly and did their best to ensure our evening went well. However, it was disappointing that the management was unable or unwilling to address my inedible main course, as I would expect a restaurant to take pride in the quality of its food. Additionally, I had some unsettling experiences with a security guard stationed near the restrooms. At one point, he followed me to the ladies' room when I was alone, and two times during the night, he entered our private room and stood behind me. Whenever I walked away, he also left. I noticed he wasn't doing this with other guests and would only approach the spot near my seat, which made me feel uncomfortable. After that, I ensured someone accompanied me to the restroom, and that seemed to stop the incidents. Overall, it was an uncomfortable end to what was a mediocre culinary experience. The food was stunning, and the service was outstanding. I dined in for dinner, and the price per person was around £30–40. I would rate the food a perfect 5, the service a 5, and the atmosphere a 5 as well.
