Honestly the best curry both of us have ever had. It was fantastic to go to a restaurant with clearly labelled vegan options and to have servers who know what vegan means. Poppadom and dips, starter, main and a rice/naan is only £15.99 Sunday Thursday which we thought was excellent value. We’ll definitely be back (already planning when we might return! and have highly recommended to family and friends. Would be 5* if happy cow allowed it for non vegan joints. The dEATs: Before our starters, we got poppadoms and condiments. Poppadoms are poppadoms but the condiments instead of having the classic 3 of which you can’t have the mint yoghurt, we got FIVE fully vegan ones (including a vegan mint yoghurt and I can’t tell you what they all were but they were all delicious! For starters we got veg samosa and hara kebab (stir fried chickpeas, lentils, spinach and potato wrapped in a batwa bread . Both were delicious, but we really enjoyed the hara kebab in particular. For mains, we both got the vegan tikka masala. This was beyond amazing so many flavours going on due to the coconut milk and a subtle sweetness! It tasted like the curry form of a peshwari naan! The only minor criticism we would have and it really is a minor thing is we would have liked more chickpeas in it, just to up the protein content a bit. We were told it had chickpeas in it, but I only saw a couple in my whole curry! Or even a chicken alternative option such as vegan quorn chicken pieces would be amazing! Regardless, the curry was still super tasty and flavourful, and I’d get it again 100%. For sides, we got a vegetable rice and a vegan naan and shared the 2 between us. We also got a saag aloo. All of it was absolutely amazing we were just blown away by the whole experience really and the portion sizes were huge so we took some home and had the rest for dinner the next day. Bottom line: GO! Would be 5* but Happy Cow only allow 5* reviews for fully vegan places. They have an extensive offering of vegan dishes across starters, mains and sides. We've never had a bad dish and the vegan curry mains are as good or better than anywhere we've ever had (pre and post vegan diet). They don't just swap out ghee for oil and chuck veggies in to fill. Each dish is clearly well thought out and has been mastered over many years We tend to go for the Korma or Tikka Masala (one slightly hot) along with a side, tonnes of poppadoms and of course the vegan mint sauce. Can never wait to go back!
We visited just after the restaurant had opened. They were very pleasant and the manager came and spoke to me about their vegan options. Although he was not vegan he had a great understanding. Even the popadoms and dips were fully vegan, I was skeptical at first though. I had a dhal and rice, it was beautifully presented and very tasty. Would recommend this place to any vegans.
Now, for the details: before our starters, we enjoyed poppadoms with condiments. The poppadoms were good, but instead of the classic three dips (which included the mint yogurt that we couldn’t have), we received five different vegan options (including a vegan mint yogurt), and I can’t identify all of them, but they were all delicious! For starters, we ordered the vegetable samosas and hara kebabs (stir-fried chickpeas). Both were delicious, but we especially enjoyed the hara kebab. For our mains, we both had the vegan tikka masala, which was amazing with so many flavors from the coconut milk and a hint of sweetness! It tasted like a curry version of a Peshwari naan! The only small critique I have, and it’s really minor, is that I would have liked more chickpeas in it to boost the protein content. I think there were only a few little pieces in my curry! Even a vegan chicken alternative would be fantastic! Regardless, the curry was incredibly tasty and I would order it again without hesitation. For sides, we had a sweet vegan naan and shared both between us, along with a saag aloo. Everything was amazing; we were truly blown away by the entire experience, and the portions were huge—we even took some home for dinner the next day!
