Subway - Sunderland

When I called, a voice greeted me, asking how they could help. I started to place my order, but the response was an anxious, “Um, can you hold on for one second?” I explained that I was in a hurry and would just stop by the store instead. I doubted this would end well, but tried to remain optimistic. Upon arriving, the place was empty except for one car leaving the parking lot. I walked in and waited for several minutes before the girl behind the counter appeared. She was friendly but seemed a bit out of sorts, talking to herself in a low voice and making odd comments like, “Oh, don’t be an idiot like me!” I was quite confused and laughed nervously at her remarks. I stood there for about five minutes as she fumbled around behind the counter, moving various items. Then things took a strange turn. She started messing with the meatball area and muttered about not knowing what she was doing and hoping she didn’t get burned. To my astonishment, she picked up a bag of meatballs in sauce and dumped them in the trash. All of this without ever acknowledging my presence as a customer or informing me that she'd be with me shortly. Finally, she approached me and I asked if she had more meatballs and if there was a possibility of making a chicken grinder with meatball sauce. She looked me in the eye and said, “You just made me throw those away.” I was shocked. I decided to leave since she had no tomato sauce, and she appeared surprised by my decision. I won’t be returning to this location, which is disappointing because I would have visited multiple times a week if things were better managed. Each time I’ve been here, it’s been the same inexperienced college staff, and I believe it’s the manager’s responsibility to train them properly. I’d give two stars for the girl’s friendliness, but overall it’s just one star for the wasted time during my lunch break and the consistent poor customer experience.
