Tekila Mexican Cantina - Sussex

Cute place. Went for an early dinner wanted to sit outside but the menu is limited if you sit outside. Not sure why, there was only one other table occupied while we were there so you would think they would of just let us order off the regular menu but they made us go inside. Food is alright, not great. We had a Groupon which was nice.

The food and ambiance were great! Not sure if they were super short staffed or this is their normal service model, but we did not have a server. We had to order our food through an app on our phone and get our drinks from the bar. We wanted waters and had to go to a big, orange Gatorade jug in the corner and self serve ourselves. We also then got a $4 service charge added to our bill for using a credit card (only option to pay) and asked for a tip. Not sure for what? It just wasn't the experience we were expecting for a large group birthday occasion.

We went in Friday night for dinner and drinks, we sat at the bar. The bartender was not attentive and actually rude! I felt discriminated against because if my casual attire and no gucci shoes. I didnt wait for dinner , i left because i felt uncomfortable. Dont waste your money here! Will not return.

Service was good…and that’s where it ends. Sat outside on a bench. I wish I was in the meeting that decided that benches without backs would be a good idea. A nice patio on a summer’s night, but a bench instead of a dining chair, come on. One can’t screw up a can of beer, but they did a “number” on my wife’s margarita. She offered me a sip. Wow, something was wrong. We didn’t enjoy the food. We are not gourmets, just people who like good food tastes. I don’t know if they were trying to create Tex-Mex or Mexican, but it was neither. The food was plentiful…thus the second star. I forgot to mention the traditional chips and salsa offering. Chips were okay, but salsa was more ketchup than salsa. To top off the night, the Harley cult arrive . Loud, and wanting to be noticed. I thought the way one member was dressed, the KISS convention was in town. Will we go back? I don’t think they want us back.

I, like others who reviewed this place, wanted to like it...but that was not the case. Sitting outside on a bench with no back sucks, Strike One. Strike two...margarita was strange tasting. Overwhelming odd taste. Strike three...enchiladas were not good. Of course, the loud mouth Harley cult members did not add to the dining experience. Our server was nice and worked hard, hence the second star. Will we back...stupid question...NO.
