El Pollo Regio - The Colony

My order came out quickly, and the owner or manager greeted me warmly before I left. It was evident that he was passionate about his business. He shared that all the food is made in-house and pointed out some lovely details in the decor, highlighting the sounds of the salsas being mixed and prepared. I appreciated his energy and dedication; it was clear he truly cares about his work. Now onto the main event! I took my soup home, and it remained warm and well-packaged. They took great care to secure the bowl of soup in plastic packaging. It came with a side of Salsa Verde, jalapeños, and tortilla strips, which I had requested. The portion was generous and well-priced, featuring large pieces of chicken along with vegetables like celery, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and pinto beans. There was plenty of broth, and I really appreciated that it wasn’t overly salty! The soup also had a layer of melted white cheese at the bottom and was topped with fresh avocado. Overall, I found the soup to be hearty and filling—a meal in itself. The salsas I sampled were fantastic! The cabbage with carrots had a great flavor with a hint of herbs, and the Salsa Verde was creamy and delicious, with a savory taste I could definitely see pairing well with eggs. The Pico de Gallo was also tasty, but my favorite was definitely the Salsa Roja—I could eat that by the spoonful! My crema churro, also a limited-time offering, was a delightful treat that wasn’t overly sweet. Thank you to the team for their hospitality and pride in their work. They are the kind of friendly, hardworking folks who inspire me to support local businesses! I would definitely order their signature mesquite-grilled chicken again. The food is excellent, but the cleanliness of the place leaves much to be desired. There are flies everywhere! It's hard to enjoy the unlimited salsa bar, which I love, when you're dodging flies. Please consider getting a fly trap; they're inexpensive at Home Depot or Lowe's.

About 45 minutes before closing, everything was going well. However, I ordered frogs legs and they were a bit overcooked. The manager, who had been cooking chickens, came over to apologize and personally made a fresh batch for us. They were delicious! He was very pleasant and professional, ensuring that the rest of our experience was excellent, which it truly was. This was one of the best examples of management response that I’ve seen in a long time. Great service!
