Lonnie Q's Bbq - Topeka

Barbecue options in Topeka are quite limited, but Lonnie's is a solid choice. The Q Cup offers good value for the price. I would recommend steering clear of the hot BBQ sauce; in my opinion, just adding cayenne to regular BBQ sauce doesn't really create a true spicy flavor. However, the regular BBQ sauce is quite tasty. I prefer to have BBQ sauce on the potatoes and mixed into the beans, as these additions really enhance the sides for me.

My family and I were visiting Kansas for vacation and stumbled upon this fantastic BBQ spot, I can not explain in words how delicious the food is. So here is a picture to help explain where my words failed lol.

The food is awesome, even if the menu is limited. We've only gone in the evening and the line is started before they even opened, so I would say be prepared to wait, but it is definitely worth the wait. They have large portions and we go nights for the ribs, but their brisket and pulled pork is awesome too. We didn't care for their sauce, but we've only done to go so we just used our preferred stuff at home and it wasn't a big deal. Would definitely recommend trying and coming early before they run out.

Lonnie himself was there cooking Friday. Great food, friendly, helpful employees and even though they ran out of the Ribs I wanted, I then ordered a sandwich. I was surprised when Lonnie brought a couple of ribs to my table. The customer feels valued at Lonnies.

You absolutely need to eat here! Yes, you must plan ahead as they have limited hours. Come hungry because their helpings are larger than average. The cheesy taters are fabulous! Every meat option is spot on for taste and tenderness. We will be back next week!
