Mama's Dessert Kitchen - Torbay

I came here after seeing the reviews and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Oreo sundae and I would definitely come back.

I visited that place with my family while being on holidays in Torquay. Big advert from outside , very welcoming but very disappointing when you get in . Very dark, depressing and dated decor and music from 60’s . Not somewhere where you feel comfortable to eat ice cream . Had a feeling that Frankenstein gonna jump out from the corner : . Good deep cleaning is needed also. The waitress brought menus and it’s a big selection . So we ordered crepes . Never had worse in my life . Totally tasteless plastic, bit like a chewing gum. Obviously not fresh made. Batter is definitely from ready ingredients factory pot…rather than just flower milk sugar and eggs . So we left most of it. Only one positive thing about this place what I can say is that staff is very nice . Friendly and good service . Will be not returning

I know a lot of people rave about this place, but if you 've ever had decent ice-cream, like Marshfield Farm or Salcombe dairy, then you 'll know what I 'm talking about, because the ice cream from Mama 's tastes cheap, and I mean really cheap and nasty. Now I know they 'll probably have something to say about this, like 'it 's not cheap ice-cream ', and that 's ok, but believe me it 's cheap ice cream for a lot of money. This was an order delivered to our home.

Firstly, absolutely nothing wrong with the delivery times etc.. Mama 's is OK I guess, they 're pretty much the only show in town (at least I think they are) for desserts, but to be honest, I 've had desserts from here a few times, and whilst they 're perfectly edible, they 're also very underwhelming. I think a lot of this is down to the quality of ingredients. I know kids will eat any ice cream or pudding and think it 's great, but as an adult, you know the difference between super cheap ice cream and a good one. Mama 's ice-cream tastes very cheap 'Happy Shopper ' kind of cheap. The chocolate ice cream tastes cheap, like cooking chocolate. I know Mama 's will continue to have a steady stream of customers until someone better come along, but I think I 'll see if I can get myself some Salcombe Dairy or Marshfield Farm ice cream. Now they know how to make something special.

I must say, I took my four grandkids, wife, and son for a lunchtime treat and they all absolutely loved it! The food was fantastic and the staff were exceptional. The portions were huge and the quality was top-notch. I give 5 stars for the wonderful staff. Thank you, we will definitely be returning!
