John Sons Oyster House Downtown

Aside from a some rude walk-in customers trying to get ahead of a few groups with reservations (us included) everything was wonderful for it being Valentine’s Day and how busy it can get. Our server was knowledgeable about wine and oysters and checked in often. This is definitely going in as one of my favourite birthday dinners because it was delicious and not overly Valentines-y which is why I usually avoid going out on the actual day.

Food was not very good. Scallop risotto was full of onions. Octopus was cold. Ambiance was good and servers were helpful.

Lovely slice of the east coast in the heart of downtown Toronto. I go here when I'm craving high quality comfort food. Reminds me of Halifax. Not an Oyster fan but everyone I've brought there says they're amazing.

My boyfriend and I booked here last minute on my birthday because I was craving oysters and we were not disappointed. Although this was pre pandemic, I felt very welcome and safe, I remember they were wiping everything down before seating us which was amazing considering we went right before everything shut down. The staff was very knowledgable in the oyster selection and everything came out quickly and was presented in a fantastic way. They also had a good drink menu! My only feedback would be to increase the variety of toppings for the oysters outside of the basic Tabasco and lime options. All up, I’d totally go again!

Food was excellent, service was a little slow but IMO they were understaffed for servers. Would return again!
