The Journey Restaurant Bar - Trat

I just start saying wow! This place is phenomenal... so much we went back two days in a row to taste several dishes. Everything is super fresh and tasty, surpasses many of the “American” meals we return to the USA. One can say that BJ and his wife Aif are really passionate about what they do and it shows. They are incredibly hospitable, fun chatting with and it makes for a great experience. Here are a few dishes I would recommend: Day 1 lunch we had “The Famous” Burger and tuna Panini. We now understand why the burger is famous, it is honestly better than 99% back in California. Even if you would not come for the burger, you would do yourself a service by skipping on it. The tuna was also excellent. Day 2 dinner we had the ribs and salmon. The ribs were beautifully spiced, fell out of the bone and came with this incredible sauce we never had. The salmon was also brilliant, crispy on the outside, flakey on the inside, just perfect. If you go to Koh Chang, do yourself a favor and check this place.

I would have never imagined that I would eat the best burger and fries I've ever had in a small village at the very end of an island in Thailand. The burger and chips had a unique taste which was so delicious! Bj really puts a lot of love in the food he creates. You not only recognize it when talking to him, but you can also taste it. Same goes for our dessert...chocolate brownie and the other thing with the banana filling (sorry forgot the name of that one). Kudos to Aif and Bj for running such a great place! Both were great hosts (we very much enjoyed the conversation and our evening at your place) and the place is also designed beautifully (even more after dawn). Thanks for the great evening!

Very good Burger and Paninis here. Most of the food is handmade with great passion. Service was nice and fast (kind of unusaul in Thailand. . You should come here if you are sick of rice : PS: Beware of the chef's wife, she is an fire-devil :

We decided to come here because we read a review saying it was on of the best burgers they have ever tried. We came and ordered two beef cheese burgers and curly fries, and I can personally say they have lived up to the reputation. The couple that owns the place are incredibly nice, and pleasant to chat with. Anyone who comes to koh Chang and does not eat here is really missing out. Best food on the island hands down. 10/10

This should have been 5 stars so let me explain what I liked. The food is very high quality, excellent beef, bread and seasoning, good size portions too. We are a family of 4 and we ordered 4 burgers, 3 of them sets (fries and a drink) but the signature burger does not come as a set. No worries, we'll order as separates (not ideal but manageable). The burger arrived with fries and then we got an extra order of fries. This was not made clear by the Thai (part owner, the English husband is the chef) lady serving us as we would not have ordered extra fries had we known. This is only a minor detail in the scheme of things but it did mar the experience somewhat. However, I would like to emphasise that the food is excellent, the chef is friendly and talks to his customers and the reputation is well deserved, it is, without doubt the best burger you will have on Koh Chang (there's an argument for all of Thailand). I would go again (and probably will, I visit Koh Chang 2 or 3 times a year) but I feel that for a restaurant doing such an amazing job in every other area little details stand out when they're not quite right.
