Rodrigo's Mexican Grill - Tustin

Went to this location a LOT in the 90s and 2000s, but just stopped before Covid (and about the time she rebranded from Don Jose. I was there twice last year with the second visit worse than the first. This last time we entered shortly after the opening. We sat right away and we were the only guests back then. But it took (literal five minutes for a busboy to deliver chips and salsa, five more minutes to get our drinks and then 10 more minutes to appear for our waiter! (20 minutes! Our meals came out at a reasonable time, but the flavors (meat, sauces, spices were quite down from our previous visit just three months ago, and more so from three years ago! Then we had to wait a while to get our check. When we went to pay, the checkout was tried to ring various to-go orders while hearing other workers, explaining the bags of food through the register for delivery services. Then there were about four customers who wanted to pay their cheques and about eight other people are waiting to be sitting. Bad service, bad food, bad organizational skills... Our last time here was definitely our LAST TIME here.

The food here is good, it's close to the house. The service is great.

Late lunch on Friday afternoon. The place was almost empty, although several people picked up take orders. My taquito was sufficient, the Spanish rice and beans also good. Not gourmet Mexican, but reliable and healthy. The service was great. I would not hesitate to recommend the place for standard Mexican foods.

On Wednesday, 7/13 at 5:30 p.m., everything was not so busy. The waitress was distracted. When she brought my dinner, there was no sour cream and guacamole. I asked her about it, and she said she'd check if she should have both. It took her quite awhile coming back with both. I asked her about a lemonade when she brought my dinner and she came back with a water. She didn't even wait until we were near the food to bring us the bill, nor did she come back to see if we wanted any refills on our drinks or something else after they brought us the bill. Since it was my birthday, I got a free flame and it was super small.

Great place. Good food and good service. I would go againm
