It was such a great experience that we went back another night for wine and dessert. They were incredibly friendly, and even offered to open up the next day (they were closed on that day) to make us breakfast before we headed out. Great experience.
There are very few restaurants in the area so when we stumbled across Caffe del Viaggiatore, we were pleasantly surprised. The first dinner their was good and the couple that own the cafe as well as the bed and breakfast, were engaging and made every effort to give us a good experience. We enjoyed it so much we told them we'd be back the next evening at the same time and would they hold that particular cozy table for us. When we got there the table we requested was not available, and the gracious hosts of the night before were just plain rude. The food was poor, and we were totally disappointed and sorry we wasted our time and money!
In contrast to similar cafes in the region this one is both unwelcoming and the manager/proprietor was downright rude. This totally unjustified behaviour lost him potential repeat customers on the first day of our holiday.
To expensive and low quality food. It seems that menue is composed of re-heated dishes that are just not worthed. If you want snacks and drinks it is OK.
San Mamete is a small place occupying an enviable location of the shores of Lake Lugano. Whilst staying in the village we came across this small restaurant and B&B located on the main road opposite the public car park by the lake. From the outside it is rather unprepossessing, but, looking for somewhere different to eat in the village, we thought we'd try it for dinner. The printed menu listed fairly familiar dishes such as lasagne and spaghetti Bolognese but the lovely friendly owner, with his perfect English, also produced a blackboard of regional dishes and specials. I had an excellent insalate caprese to start, followed by one of the specials, Pizzoccheri, (a local pasta dish which was excellent. My husband joined me on the Pizzoccheri with melon and Serrano ham to start. The quality of the ingredients was superb and the dishes perfectly cooked and served by the friendly waitress. For dessert I tried the homemade tiramisu, which was as excellent as I had hoped, as was the limoncello!!! We had only intended to eat there the one night but enjoyed, ourselves so much, we went back again the next evening (when roast beef was on the menu!
