The Mexican food here is excellent—delicious and generous portions. The restaurant isn't very large, so it's best to arrive early if you want a table. We came with a group of six, and the staff was accommodating, finding a way for us to sit together. The atmosphere is nice, clean, and casual. However, the real star of the show is the food!
The atmosphere was extremely unwelcoming. When I entered, I was met with laughter directed at me—perhaps because I was sweating in the 85-degree heat? They skipped over me in line to take the order of the person behind me. It was clear that the staff were not friendly towards other people of color either.
I've been looking forward to visiting this place for some time since I’m from Honduras, and there aren’t many Honduran restaurants in DC. The space is cozy, and we were fortunate to secure a table for four. The waitstaff was very friendly. My only minor criticism is that it took a while for them to check on us and bring the bill after we finished, but that’s a small detail. The food was absolutely fantastic! We shared chips and guacamole at the table. I ordered the cheese pupusa and beef empanadas, and the empanadas were by far the best I’ve ever tasted! I also loved the Honduran art displayed throughout the restaurant. I can't wait to return!
You must visit Benito’s when in DC. Places like Benito’s are going away because of high cost in the area but trust me, they have the most authentic food you will ever eat in DC
