District Soul Food Lounge - Washington

The food at District Soul Food exceeded my expectations, as I have been disappointed so many times when eating Soul Food in Restaurants. The food was extremely well prepared and very tasty. The Staff was very nice and very professional. I would not hesitate to eat at District Soul Food again.

GREAT but many ROOM grow! I was looking for a special place to have a birthday dinner with 3 other mature and extremely demanding suburban women, none of whom was more excited to drive to DC for lunch. I won her on site. So your location, besides two other things, attracted me to this restaurant the food and the novelty. I wasn't disappointed. I went into a very good scene NEW very different from the Banana Cafe. The color scheme and the artwork are beautiful! The food was GREAT! I am from the Low Country SC and grew up on the dishes offered on the menu. (I consider myself an expert. LOL! The food was good and authentic. Our server was charismatic and friendly. These are the things that would force me to return. Also the choice of music is SUPERB. It felt like a soul food spot. At noon, however, Mainstays were not available on the menu Soul Rolls and either Dessert (Banan Pudding Sweet Potato Pound Cake. I am not an expert for the restaurant, but I think that the Soul Rolls (in this Soul Food restaurant should be a main reminder AVAILABLE. And at 1 a.m. after half a day of opening (as they are closed Monday to evening, I thought they were locked, loaded and ready to go. At the end of the meal and outing, I made a comment about not getting the soul rolls to the woman that seemed to be a manager of any kind. She brought us something out. They were here. Someone from the kitchen also took the garbage out and went right behind us through the dining area. That was very disturbing. I hope that was the decision of the individual employee and not the direction of management. Overall it was GOOD experience with GOOD food. I'm rooted in the success of this place. I'll give it a little more time before I return. I'll move!

This was my second visit. This time, with a large party so I believe this played a part in the 4-Star rating as opposed to the 5 Stars I gave the week before. Because of the size of the group, it took quite a while to take the order and serve the entire party. Out of 18 people, 6 persons had eaten before the rest of the party had been served. Members of my party, who had been for the first time did offer one of the owners feedback, which was well received. The experience was not bad so I know I will be back.

I am not an expert for the restaurant, but I think that the soul rolls (in this restaurant of soul food should be a main available and loaded by 1 clock after half a day of opening (as they are closed Monday to evening, I thought they would go closed and go closed. at the end of eating and outing, I have made a comment about not getting the soul roll to the woman who seemed to be a manager of any kind. I'm glad we found this jewel. the atmosphere was great, eating was good, the music was perfect and we enjoyed each other. the owner even came out and gave us a tour through the square and made sure everything went well. we will definitely come back!
