Honey Bay's Bbq - Waukegan

Authentic Alabama Barbeque. Green, okra, rib tips, pork chops, chicken, Mac and cheese, cornbread... all goods. Looks like there's a little shop window. South food and a southern hospitality of a welcome.

I came to this place with my brother, and didn’t know what to expect. Everything about the chicken from the seasoning to the tenderness to how juicy it was makes it an instant favorite spot of mine. Not to mention the people were extremely nice and made sure we had a great experience. We had the jerk chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and onion rings as sides.

Made a review a couple days ago criticizing the food and service of this restaurant. Afterwards the owner reached out and invited me back for another chance. This time around the food was amazing. So I am editing my review because of the effort and total improvement from my 1st visit. But even better was the customer service from the owner himself and Cookie, the cashier. Both had great hospitality and I recommend to inform BBQ Johnson anytime you experience a problem. He’s a good guy and cares about his customers. He is very passionate about his restaurant and will most likely balance out the issue you have. Keep up the good work!

Superb!! I don’t know which was better, the grill or fried pork chops. Had a side that consists of mash potatoes, corn, orka and an unknown ingredient that was the icing on the cake. Met the owner, the cook and a very optimistic front cashier receptionist that bragged on the food. She was absolutely right. Didn't lie about a thing. However my favorite was the grilled pork chop. It was everything and more than what my son Roger said it was. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I decided to check out their new location after having nothing but great experiences with Honey Bay’s at their old Belvidere location in Waukegan, and I am glad that I did! I called in my order ahead of time and the lady on the phone was incredibly friendly. When I came in to pick up my order I was greeted by name when I walked through the door. My food was delicious! I ordered the rib tip dinner with an additional hot link and everything was tasty. The hot link had a wonderful seasoning and snap to the sausage casing and made a great little sandwich with the white bread and coleslaw that came with my dinner. The rub tips themselves are definitely my favorite in the area. They had a great smoke flavor, perfect texture and had a ton of nice meaty pieces. The mild sauce was phenomenal as well, but if I had to nitpick ever so slightly I would’ve wanted just a tad more sauce. If you’re in the mood for some fantastic food and would like to support some genuine and nice people who are passionate about their work, definitely give Honey Bay’s a visit! And save room for dessert. The banana cream pudding is worth it!
