The Smoking Dog - Wiltshire

I went to this restaurant for a beer and Sunday lunch. The pub looked very nice from the outside and the service was good. I ordered a Butcombe Gold ale and two Sunday roasts, one beef for £16 each. The food came out quickly and looked good, but the beef was disappointing. It was very chewy and extremely fatty. However, the vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy were all good. The waitress checked in with us after the meal and we mentioned that the beef was not up to standard. She apologized, but we were still not satisfied. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this restaurant.

My Tropical fish gets fed better food than they can provide, it was absolutely terrible I would not expect my dog to eat that.

I met up with a couple of former coworkers for lunch. It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon at a charming pub with a spacious backyard. We sat indoors since the weather had changed. I enjoyed a delicious classic burger with fries and a pint of bitter. The service was friendly, and there was nothing to complain about.

Lovely friendly pub. Nice food. Good for a few drinks and lunch or Sunday roast. Not a huge menu but good quality and genuine pub feel. Butcombe beer is outstanding. Book on Sunday as it get busy. Thanks to the staff.

My daughter found this pub on line as we are not familiar with Malmesbury. We were able to park easily on the High Street, there is no parking at the pub. We had a lovely circular river walk and were then all ready to consume a drink and a roast. We were given a nice big table in the bar, the bar is rustic and welcoming to families and dogs, there is a good choice of family games for customer use. I couldn’t fault the Smoking Dog. The staff were friendly and welcoming, with a great choice of beer, wine etc. The menu is extensive and caters for vegans and vegetarians. Being meat eaters my husband was delighted with his huge pile of gammon! My roast was superb, we asked for a few more roasties, no problem and no charge. A very relaxed atmosphere, we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at The Smoking Dog and highly recommend it.
