The Magnolia Place - Winder

The restaurant features a charming collection of tea pots, and the food buffet along with the dessert bar is excellent. I dined in for lunch and everything was fantastic. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all at 5 out of 5.

Visited on Friday evening while camping at the state park. Good reviews, looked like a nice place. Arrived at 7:30. Two other tables eating. While waiting to be seated, a woman at one table called to us and said the food was delicious. So we thought it would be good. Wrong. Greasy fried catfish, tough fried chicken strips, and what I believe was a thin country fried steak (breaded burger patty) floating on brown gravy were the meat selections. Mashed potatoes, white gravy, Mac and cheese, fried okra, green beans, corn, and limas made up the veggie side. Mac was flavorless. Fish was greasy. Chicken was tough. Vegetables had other foods floating in the water. The “steak” wasn’t too bad. Okra and potatoes were ok. Peach cobbler and banana pudding pans were nearly empty. We didn’t attempt to scrape enough to fill a bowl. The iced tea was good. $35.90 for two (including tax), and we left hungry. Advice: ask to see the buffet before agreeing to be seated. Then decide if you want to stay. Maybe we were there at a bad time, but we certainly won’t be going back.
