There's a small parking lot next to the pub, but it's usually full. Your alternative is a pay-and-display car park nearby, which typically has available spaces at any time, but you'll have to pay for parking. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this pub unless you're planning to join the crowd at the bar!
The Johnny Pie is a quirky little pub located right in the heart of Heswall, but it never seems to attract many customers. It gives off the vibe of a place where, if you're not a regular, everyone tends to stare, making you feel a bit out of place. This is definitely more of a pub for locals and has a primarily older clientele rather than younger patrons. That said, the pub has charming decor and offers a full selection of spirits, along with plenty of draught and bottled beers, as well as house wines. However, there are many other pubs in Heswall you might prefer, as they tend to be friendlier and livelier. For instance, the Devon Doorway and the Glegg Arms are just a ten-minute walk away! If you're looking for alternatives, you can also check out the Black Horse Inn in lower Heswall or the Stables.
The restaurant offers decent food at reasonable prices, making it a good choice for a budget-friendly meal. A bottle of wine costs only £7, and the service is generally good with polite staff. However, one downside is that it caters mostly to older customers, so be careful not to trip over walking sticks and zimmer frames during your visit. There isn't really a beer garden, just a small enclosed area that overlooks the local council car park and Heswall bus station. On a positive note, there is a small free parking lot available for patrons.
