Great Bar and Great People...... Cool Place To Socialize, Dance and Have Fun......
A classic Wisconsin supper club located a few miles outside Wisconsin Dells in the countryside serving all the classics. We stopped in on a Friday In May for the fish fry. This place hits all the classic Wisconsin supper club notes. We of course started with an old fashioned a little heavy-handed on the bitters) and enjoyed some deep-fried cheese curds. Most of our group opted for the haddock fish fry 2 or 3 pieces) which comes with potato I got fries) and soup or salad iceberg lettuce, a couple of red onion rings, slice of tomato and choice of dressing). The meal also comes with soft potato rolls and butter. As I said, it covers all the bases and if you are looking for an old-fashioned, low cost meal, this place is perfectly fine-nothing special or memorable-but good quality middle-American food.
We tried Otto's Supper Club for dinner over Labor Day Weekend. It's several miles down the road from the Wisconsin Dells. Otto's was busy, but unlike the rest of the Dells, not packed. There was plenty of parking and they were able to seat us immediately. The interior felt very much like a traditional supper club w/lots of wooden tables and a window looking out on the highway. The hostess seated us immediately and our waitress came out shortly to take our drink order. An old-fashioned and an iced-tea. The menu consisted of appetizers (fried mushrooms, cheese curds, pickles, etc , salads, steaks, sandwiches, and several fish options. We ordered battered mushrooms, a rib-eye and blue-gill. We each started with an order of the clam chowder. The flavor was good, but it was way to salty for my taste. The rolls came out next. Buttery, airy, golden brown. These were perfect. It wasn't long before our entrees arrived. At this point I pointed out to our waitress that we had never received the mushrooms. She suggested that we should have flagged her down and pointed out they were missing earlier, but I said we really didn't need them at this point since the rib-eye was HUGE. The rib-eye really was HUGE, though after trimming off all the excess fat (and there was more fat than I typically expect even for a rib-eye it was a typical size. We both thought the flavor was very good. The baked potato was fine and the fried shrimp were delicious. I also thought the shrimp sauce was very good. The fried blue-gill was also very good. I had the rice pilaf with it which was also tasty. (It was described as wild rice, and there was some wild rice in it, but it was more of a rice pilaf. Aside from the mushrooms not being delivered, what disappointed me the most was that our waitress never offered to refill my iced-tea even thought it was empty mid-way through my entree. Even when she finally brought over the check, I thought she might offer. I guess I should have asked. To sum it it, that atmosphere was good, the service sub-par, the food pretty good with a couple of minor disappointments and the prices were very reasonable. I don't think you should hesitate to try it.
Good food (we both opted for the fish fry which was goo) but service was a little slower this evening. They were busy with tonight being Friday fish fry. I would recommend maybe making a reservation or possibly coming earlier in the evening? They open at 4pm.
