Golden City - York

The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. In my opinion, this is the best Chinese takeaway in York.

I placed my order over the phone since I was a bit far away, and when I arrived, it was ready for pick up. The lady who answered the phone was always polite and friendly. I misheard her say "egg fried rice", but now I can't help but laugh and always ask for it. She now recognizes me lol. The portion size was fantastic, with lots of beef in the beef chow mein, along with noodles and a moderate amount of mushrooms and onions. The special fried rice was amazing, filled with meat, prawns, egg, and rice. All of this for under £20, definitely worth it. This is now my go-to place for Chinese food. I also tried their fish and chips, which were delicious and mostly fresh, with perfect batter. Overall, a great spot for takeout. I have also tried some of their dishes based on pictures.

So tasty!! The lemon chicken is amazing! I love the vegetables in black bean sauce and the chow Mein char Sui is lovely!! 5/5 so nice so good!

I used to really enjoy this Chinese restaurant. It used to be the best in York. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. I ordered the king prawn in black bean sauce tonight and it was mostly onions and very watery. It was basically just an onion black bean sauce. It's disappointing to see the decline in quality.

Very nice chinese, good size portions, this is one of the best chinese around where I live
