The service was lacking, and the food was only slightly better. While Mimmo was his usual charming self, he needs to focus more on the quality of service and the food. We won’t be returning.
Even though we had visited before with a large group, which might have contributed to our previous dissatisfaction, our recent experience was much more positive. The food was quite good this time, the atmosphere was lively, and although it was busy, it added to the overall excitement of the evening. We have some elderly friends who really enjoy the restaurant, and when we invited them out for dinner, they immediately suggested Mimmo's. My wife and I exchanged a knowing glance, indicating that we should go. We dined there last night and had a delightful meal and a wonderful time. Our waitress was fantastic, the food exceeded our expectations, and Mimmo himself was a charming and humorous host. We’re definitely looking forward to our next visit!
I recently ate diner at Mimo 's with my wife. We hadn 't been since we started having kids (17 yrs ago). We figured we 'd go on a date and try it again as we both like Italian food. It should have been a tip off that I didn 't have any strong memories about the food quality. The evening was perfect; the view superb! Be forewarned...the restaurant is BYOB. Not a big deal, but we hadn 't planned ahead, so we drank water. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the service was decent. Unfortunately the food is not. I tend to judge an Italian restaurant by its lasagna, so if I haven 't been for 17 years...yep...I ordered the lasagna. Now when it came I thought, hmmm the tomato sauce is a funny color....where have I seen sauce like this? After a few fork fulls, it was very obvious where I 'd seen and tasted sauce like this; Stouffers frozen lasagna. As I continued to eat, I was absolutely blown away that any Italian restaurant would think to serve food like this. Now, I 'm not saying it was Stouffers, but if it wasn 't, it was a hell of good copy...like an exact copy. It was the same right down to the thick noodles, sauce, small meat nuggets, little white cheese particles that you 'd find in one of those frozen lasagnas. It looks like they put some cheese on it and a few spices and threw it in an oven to melt the cheese (or thaw the frozen lasagna). That was without a doubt...the worst lasagna I have ever had in my life; and I 've had at least 50 different kinds of lasagna over the years. To call it lasagna is an insult. Sorry...my taste buds have strong feelings for lasagna. On another note...the view was great. My wife 's shrimp scampi was just OK and the salads were tasty, if a bit skimpy. Unless someone tells me of a great dish that they make, we won 't be going there again.
I love this place. The food is so good and served hot. You bring your own alcoholic beverage so the price is very reasonable.
